Also does thin soups and drinkable yogurt count too?

My rule of thumb is if it's the consistency of water I call i****er for my log. If it's thicker I don't. So - shakes, milk, coffee, tea, broth, soup I'd drink from a mug, almond milk, etc are "water" but yogurt and thicker soups aren't.

Something to remember is that our goal is to take good care of ourselves. We need fluids to function well, especially since we're burning body fat, so need those fluids to flush the residue from our bodies. So - use common sense and love yourself enough to not "cheat" yourself of what you need.

It's not a cheat I'm only 4 days post op.  Things are not fitting very well yet.  I'm doing the best I can sipping all day long literally.  But I didn't want to drink almond milk or lactaid soup etc if it didn't count as a fluid cause I can only fit just 64 oz not extra yet.

I wasn't calling you a cheat - just encouraging you to come up with a rule of thumb for yourself that works well to stay hydrated. I also didn't look at your surgical date.

I've never had "drinkable yogurt." Is it pretty close to the thickness of milk? If so - it's water, too.

You'll see lots of people drinking almond milk on here, largely to avoid the calories and carbs in regular milk. At your stage, unless you especially like it, I'd be looking more at your lactaid milk for the protein benefit. Almond milk has little actual food value and the calcium carbonate in it isn't useful to us. That said, I still drink the unsweetened chocolate version occasionally (adding my own sweetener) just because I like it.

Btw - Jello also counts as fluid, but Fred thinks it's a solid, even though I'm nearly 6 months out, so try it if you want to and see what your new tummy thinks.

Btw - if you're managing 64 ounces at only 4 days you should be hugely proud of ourself. That's wonderful for so early after surgery. Good for you!

Yes I did make my hydration goals each day with a little stuggle but I did it, so far but I'm no where near my protien goals yet.  Will start working on that harder next week once I get the fluids down pat.

Maybe try increasing by 5 grams of protein every couple of days until you get to your goal amount. It's a bit less daunting that way.

That's a good idea about the protien.  Last night I had trouble sleeping so I continued to sip even though I got my fluids in to be over target bad idea.  I woke up with a lot of uncomfortable gerd.  Now I know why the doctor said stop sipping 1 hour before bed.

Listen to this advice! We seen over and over posts about the need to sip constantly.  I have a hard time with that, but after some IV liquids in the ER on Thursday night- I am sure going to work relly hard at getting all those fluids in.  Thanks Kelly, and everyone else who has ever advised to make sure to stay hydrated! I am now 5 1/2 weeks post op, so let my guard down with fluids...don't!

I'm sure getting dyhrated is no fun.  Beleive me you are talking to the hydro freek preop.   I used to be able to drink 64 oz in 1 sitting and I'm not exaggerating gone are those days.  But I will never let myself get dehrydrated that's why I posted the first question to start with.  I'd rather not make my protein numbers than get deyhrated.  I'm good with the fluids it's just work.  My pee is clear so I'm hydrated.  Went a well over target numbers with fluid yesterday since I had extra hours cause I had trouble sleeping I have a lot of gerd from going to sleep with liquid in my stomach.  Big mistake.  Should have stopped 1 hour before I went to sleep.  Since I had my 64 oz and over anyway.

You can never let your guard down again - ever. Because we eat so much less than normies and they get 1/2 of their fluids through their food, we will always need to be on guard.
