Anyone feel too good?

I was sleeved 12 days ago. I think I overdid a bit today, taking down my Christmas tree. I feel good and forget about the gallon of milk is all I'm supposed to lift. I'm just used to carrying laundry and cleaning around the house and not asking for help. I know I need to stop before I hurt myself. Did any of you feel like this and forget for a minute and lift or move something you shouldn't have?

I know just how u feel!  Post op day 4 I was painting my spare bedroom.  You just cannot keep me down!!  I felt like I could do it, and it needed to be done.  So I did it.  My man's house needed repair too...so i was doing it up there too.  I did not lift...no ill effects so far.

I am a huge proponent of if it feels ok...go for it.  Within reason of course.

I did have this problem once I got a few weeks out, especially once I started to get my energy back.  I never really hurt myself, but I did notice a few times when I would get sore, and then I realized I was doing things I shouldn't have been doing yet.

My advice: try to follow your doctor's instructions as much as possible, but if you happen to forget and you don't have any noticeable ill effects, don't stress it.  Just try to make note so you don't keep repeating the same "off-limits" actions... just because something didn't hurt you one time doesn't mean that the same action repeated is a good idea.

I've over done physical activities and my left incision starts hurting real bad at the end of the day and it takes me a day or so to recover. I went to my 2 week postop app with my doctor and he suggested not to do estrenous activity in about 5 weeks or until my left side discomfort goes away. You should take it easy or your body will not heal properly.

You can get a hernia from lifting too much.  This happened to me post op after another surgery 3 years ago.  I thought I was fine.  I pushed a recliner over and than all of a sudden I was so sore.  I find out much later I have a hernia from the surgery and they think it might have been that.  Fortunately it's minor and I don't have to have it fixed.  Just be careful to not over do it!

I totally did and at 9 days out, bent over to pick something up I had dropped. Not a gentle, ease myself over bend. A full on, high speed, "surgery....what surgery?" bend.

Tore the muscle on my left port side and spent the next two weeks having to put pressure on that side every time I moved....lol

Silly me!

6 days out I carried my 55 pound 3 year old son up the stairs. He passed out in the car and I couldn't wake my baby up. I was OK. Been doing it pretty much every night since....I know I probably shouldn't be doing this but I feel that I need to get back to my normal life , the sooner the better.

One thing you have to remember.  What you do now will make what follows so much easier.  Have patience and do exactly as your doc says.  Let your body heal properly.  You only have these restrictions for a little while in the grand scheme of things and you have an entire future ahead of you.  Relax, your house won't fall apart if someone else carries the laundry or cleans up, and even if it does, when you are all healed you can use your renewed energy to fix it.

Happy New Year!

Alice

Never dreamed that I could feel this good about myself again.  Looking forward to many healthy years now.

I know I need to relax but every since I woke up from surgery, I have more energy to do just normal things that I didn't have the energy to do before the surgery.
