Why am I so depressed?

I'm 6 weeks post op and have lost 32 lbs.  Not as much as I thought I would have lost by this point, but more than I would have lost on my own.  But I can't shake this feeling of depressions and anxiety.  I thought I would be feeling better about myself and have a different outlook on life, but not yet.  How long was it before your outlook on life got better??

It's hormones! Your body is going through some big changes. Believe me it gets better!!!

Happened to me as well! I was told our hormones go crazy for a little while post op. Get out and get some exercise, it releases Endorphins which make you happy all over.

I am now 12 weeks and it's getting easier!!

Good luck!

Yes, I agree with the others...just hormones. Try to do stuff that makes you happy, try to counter balance the crazy hormones that are flying around in your body thanks to the weight loss. Stop focusing on the weight loss like it hasn't been enough, focus on that you have never lost that much on your own like you said. 32 lbs in 6 weeks is awesome!

I agree, get out and move around. I have been feeling a little off and walked 10 laps yesterday and left like Rocky...like literally Rocky from the movie, with my own background music and all...LOL

Try to focus on the positive and know that it doesn't last forever.

Quite normal for where you are. It will pass in a couple of days.

Hi Jan!

Yep...absolutely hormones. Not sure of your personal stats...but if you're female and have not yet reached menopause...you might find that TOM ( and as you approach TOM) can REALLY do a number on your mood post VSG!

Trick is to persevere thru it...it will lift!

BTW= Congrats on being in Onederland!!!

Peace

Yes I was there, I remember thinking Ive lost all this weight and I dont feel any better about myself, it does truly does get better, I talked to my Dr and was put on Wellbutrin, it really made a difference, i was never on antidepressives before when I was heavy, but I really needed them after I lost weight,( crazy I know,) right now Im on half a dose, so it probally was the hormones, now that the weight loss has stabilized Im feeling better, its hard to exercise or get motivated to do any thing with depression,, but it does help to exercise, hang in there, this will pass. dont be afraid to ask for help.
Congrats you are doing great!!!

I'm Still a work in progress, I wont give up the quest to reclaim my life, I will be whole again someday!

At 5 years out I STILL have "blah" days it's also believed that the hormone ghrelin that diminishes hunger is attached to a "feel good" thing.  So I LOVE myself a little more...bubble baths...walking outside barefoot...anything that brings me JOY.

Not only do hormones go whacky, but you no longer have your best friend, food, to deal with feelings and emotions.
