My surgeon said 18 months to 2 years. Hubby and I are both fixed due to SEVERE pregnancy complications from my past. I'm supposed to go in for blood work to see if I need BC for my PCOS this week.

I use NFP (I am Catholic) and have successfully done so since my youngest was born (she is 7). Mr dr says at least a year before pregnancy.

Of course, I had to fight with the nurse at the hospital who wanted to ram bc pills down my throat.....but, that is a different story. I keep meaning to write the hospital a nice letter about the incident.

Natural Family Planning (http://www.ccli.org/nfp/)

People like to confuse it with the rhythm method, but it is nothing like it. You use three fertility signs

(temperature, cervical mucus, and cervical height) to track your ovulation.

It requires self awareness and discipline...and the couple has to buy into together.

that's what I used the entire time I was married -- 22 years.  I went to a Catholic Hospital in my town and was taught the method by some of the Nuns there.

I really do love it.....I feel like I really know my body and I hate taking meds. I took a class to learn.....I sure wish more people were educated on NFP.
