Quest Bars - how often do you have them?
I'm curious on how people on this forum are using Quest bars. Are you eating one daily? Eating half of one? Are they a meal or a snack for you? They have tons of fiber and carbs...does it matter that they say the fiber erases most of the carbs? Is that still too many carbs for those staying under 40 - 30 Carbs a day? Are these bars counterproductive to weight lose? Are they "weight loss safe" to eat daily?
As some of you know, I have a complication from my VSG surgery currently that is causing me to have extreme nausea and some vomiting. I am picky about what I eat from fear of throwing up. I have been eating these since they don't make me sick....lately been eating one whole bar a day as a meal. My weight loss has been stalled for a couple of weeks. Maybe these bars are the cause?
Once or twice a week either when I am craving carbs or a cookie or as a post workout snack. I don't like using them as a meal replacement because I prefer to get a good mix of protein and veggies in a meal. I have used them as a breakfast meal when I am in a hurry or when all my shaker cups are dirty and I am too lazy to clean one.
I honestly haven't tried them because I think they seem to high in everything to fit into my plan right now and I don't want to go down that slippery slope of it being too good that it is like a candy bar and make me revert backwards. I know how I am so just staying away seems to work for me lol

I eat them a few times a week. Sometimes as a meal in between lunch and dinner, but never as my main meal....it does not fill me up enough as a meal, but is good for in between for high protein. Some days, my numbers don't allow me to have one if my carbs or cal are too high from what i have ate that day. In fact, I just had one now because I had breakfast about 9:30 and was not real hungry for a big lunch so I had a bar and that satisfied my hunger and gave me lots of protein!
I have varied on this. My friend always has a box on hand. The way he uses them is that if he is out and about and there doesn't seem to be anything around restaurant wise that provides a healthy food choice he has one. Also if he is just on the go or at work and looses track of time or is so busy with work that he can't get away for a real lunch then these work out well in that scenario.
Also if you are going to a movie that is long like three hours long ... these are good to take along for that purpose.
So I bought a box thinking I would do just like my friend did. I like them a lot and ended up eating them every day. I did this for about 2 or 3 weeks and then realized I needed to cut back ... these can be addictive if you are not careful. Right now I am underemployed as a substitute teacher. Usually you are only given about 1/2 hour for lunch which means that you can't leave the school for a bite. The lunch at the cafeterias at schools is about the worst possible food you can eat. It is complete garbage in most cases. So I started bringing a bar in to school on the days that I would have a job and this seemed pretty good as long as I am only working a few times a week which is the case.
Overall I would say I agree with Keith in that there are better choices for natural ways to get in your nutrition. I would use the Quest bars as my friend does. If you are in a situation where you find yourself out and about with no food choices available to you ... then have one. If you go to a birthday party ... bring one along. These are sort of like treats in that they taste good. By having one of these instead of a piece of cake you are winning and not feeling deprived. Especially with that new chocolate chip cookie dough ... yum or even the chocolate brownie microwaved for about 8 to 10 seconds ... yum.
