Quick question
First, I know it's been forever... sorry. School and work kind of get the in the way of life, lol.
So, my question. I'm trying to help a non-op friend (she asked for my help) lose some weight and I have no idea what nutritional totals she should be trying to hit if I give her a modified low carb plan? I know for us, it's much different because of the altered anatomy and such. So is there somewhere I can find that info or calculators that could give me that info based on her height and weight?
I figured y'all would be the best source for that kind of info!
Hope you all are well!
Actually, it's not so different, believe it or not. You can use the Livestrong.com website to input her info and it will break down RDA totals based on desired weight loss. Here's the deal though on how they do the protein for those tables: Protein is calculated at minimums (meaning how little you can eat before becoming malnourished). The carb levels are also very high, because again the feds haven't redone to food pyramid to reflect the latest scientific knowledge.
From my reading I have gleaned that anything below 100 carbs per day is considered a low carb diet (especially for a normie!). Some studies show ketosis occurring at just below 60 grams of carbs per day, others at below 40 grams per day. If she wants ketosis, she'll have to push down to whatever level works best for her. For me, I know I have to be below 40 grams per day.
I have a normie friend (female) who was recently put on a diet to lose weight by her nutritionist. My friend needs to lose about 20-30 pounds. She gets 1100 calories a day, 100+ grams of protein,35-40 grams of fat, and the rest may come from non refined carbs (which works out to be somewhere around 75 carbs).
Nice to "see" you on the boards, even if it was just a "pop in"!
Your friend can get some inspiration from South Beach Diet or Atkins Diet books as well - both are low carb - one being less strict (carb-wise) than the other. For me, to get into ketosis, I had to have less than 20g carbs per day (and 17g was my sweet spot).
