A few questions 10 days out....
Had my Dr. appt. two days ago, but forgot to ask some questions....surgery was 10 days ago and feeling great...can i add any additional exercises besides walking? I am now on soft/pureed food. one list i have says scrambled egg...the other one says egg whites...any reason not to have the whole egg? All my papers say decaf coffee....but could i have a cup of regular?
Thanks for any input!!
It depends on what your surgeon says of course! Egg whites have the protein but not all the calories. I eat the whole egg myself, but it's a personal choice. If you do scrambled, make sure you don't overcook the egg - it should be still almost wet when you turn off the heat (it only takes about 10-15 seconds to scramble my egg) since it will continue cooking.
I had my first post-op yesterday and asked the same question about exercise. They want me to add strength training as long as I don't do anything more than 20 pounds for a couple more weeks. If you don't have a gym you can use full water bottles as weights!
I'm 17 days out and every day gets better and better, so welcome to the rest of your life!
You can have whole egg. Soft scrambled for now. If your list says decaf, then have decaf only. You should always follow drs instructions. Glad you are feeling so well. You should ask your dr about specific exercise programs. Mine did not want me lifting anything for the first 2 weeks. Dr suggested a nice walk every day in the beginning, nothing more.
Nothing but walking for at least a month. Give yourself time to heal. Whole egg is fine. It will be very difficult at first, eggs for some reason are very hard to eat early. I found fried eggs easier than scrambled.
I went back to regular coffee about three weeks out. It helped me tremendously with initiating bowel movements. I told the surgeon and he said it was okay and they only say no to regular coffee because it's a diuretic. Of course we now know it's not (recent studies debunked that myth) and since it doesn't hurt healing, some in moderation is fine.
Hope that helps
