Will the hair loss stop?
I had VSG revision from band to VSG Jan 29th. Best thing I ever did! I'm down 55 lbs!! From day 1 I have been concerned with hair loss. I take all my vitamins plus Biotin. At 1st no probs then last month my hair started coming out by the hand fulls! I had my follow up appt with my doc and she told me to increase protein to 80 grams, make sure to keep taking Biotin, and take a Hair, nails, skin supplement. I have been doing this all and my hair is still coming out. I am afraid to even bru****! I know many people that have had WL surgeries end up cutting their hair short. I do not want to do this. My doc said that the hair will eventually stop falling out and will even grow back. I want some real life advice from peeps. Can you tell me...will my hair stop falling out?? Will it really grow back?? I'm getting pretty worried.. :-(
My hair began falling out at about 4 months out and still is but it has slowed down this month. I do see new growth which I'm so thankful for!!! I figure what ever hair falls out was dead long a go and there is no repairing that, so I'm hoping too the biotin and vitamins and diet help what remains to be healthy and the new hair to grow faster. I think it is helping, but it is very alarming to loose half your hair, which I'm blonde and have fine hair anyway. Best to you!
It does stop eventually, or we would all be bald. I lost about 50% of my volume, between 3 and 7 months. But have lots of new growth coming through now.
I didn't cut mine off, it's well below my shouders. I just reduced to washing it no more than twice a week and using dry shampoo on other days and wore it up a bit more than usual. But no-one other than me has actually noticed.
At 6.5 months out my hair loss has definitely slowed down. Never tried biotin or any of that, but I do take in over 100g of protein almost every day and have done so for months, so that's probably helping.
Don't be too freaked out. There is hair loss, and you'll see a ton of it in the shower, but it's not so much that you go bald, or anyone will notice. I started washing it less to help with exposing it to too much dryer, brusher, etc, and upped my vitamins and biotin. I think that it helps but with a fast weight loss, there's not much you can do, but wait it out. At 7 months out the loss has slowed down a lot, and I see new hair coming in. I read a lot about it, and 6-8 months seems to be the stopping point for the loss, so take heart you'll get there eventually.
