Has anyone been treated for H.Pylori post-sleeve?

Hi all,

After my surgery, they did a biopsy on the stomach tissue that was removed, and they found "inflamation that was consistent with an H.Pylori infection", and sent me to a specialist.  I am now 5 weeks post op and they want to treat the infection with a 2 week course of 3 antibiotics.  The NP warned me that the antibiotics can cause a lot of digestive problems, so I'm hesitant to start them until I am eating better.  I still only have 2 oz per meal and its tough to get enough water down in a day.

I'm wondering if others have been treated for H.pylori after sleeve surgery, when you did it, and how it went?

thanks,

Carol

Im being treated for an H Pylori infection right now...there's no easy way around it, it's gonna suck. The anti biotic is nasty and bothers my stomach, but im figuring it's better just to get it over with. You dont want to let that bacteria sit in your stomach any longer than it has to - the consequences can be pretty severe.

Im SHOCKED that they didnt catch that before surgery. I had TWO tests pre-op to make sure I didnt have H Pylori.

I was tested pre-op for H-Pylori to confirm there was no infection.  Unfortunately, you need to get rid of that infection and antibiotics are the only way to to :-(

This is my own personal opinion and i am not telling you what to do.  This is only what *I* would do.

If it was me I would not take them just yet.  It's usually called a Prevpac they give you.  It is a combo of several drugs.  While you need to treat this the question is when.

They are hard to take.  I personally would wait until fully healed before starting it.

Honest to god I can't remember if I tested + for it before or after surgery! At any case, most people DO test positive and it's not that big of a deal. If it were a big deal I would remember, and I don't remember anything specific about it. I have a feeling it was before the surgery and so because of the type of medication and duration, surgery was a little delayed. I never had any upset stomach about the meds.

I'm four years out. Cannot believe it.

I was diagnosed 13 months later ! Been treated twice, now ok. The meds caused diarrhea but that's about it. Yes it's hard to take these pills but you do what you need to do.
