100 lbs , more or less, overweight and having the VSG. Will weight go fast?

I see that a lot of people on here lose 100 lbs in 6-9 months, but they sometimes  have 200 or more to lose before having the surgery. I need to lose about 100 -150 lbs to be healthy. I WANT to have realistic expectations, but is it feasible that I MIGHT lose 100 lbs  within a year?? If I stick to the program, I mean. The doctor says usually only 62 % of the weight in the first year... I find out Friday if I'm having surgery on Aug 5th.... So, comment me your true stories, good-bad or ugly, and give me and idea of what to realistically expect if I have 100 to 150 lbs excess weight. Thanks

My qualifying BMI was 40.3. Starting weight at first appt on doc's scale was 267. Day of preop appt was 252 on doc's scale.

At 2 week post op, they said they expected me to reach 160 in a year's time. I set my goal at 150. They felt it was attainable with some effort.

Good luck on your journwy!

Everyone is different, but based on the people I have met here and the stories they have shared I think it is totally possible!! And if you have surgery on Aug 5th we will be sleeve buddies!! That is my date too!! Good Luck!

I weighed 251 on day of surgery and have a goal weight of 150.  I lost 78 pounds in the first year.  I am struggling with the last twenty or so pounds.  Love the surgery and my results - no longer pre diabetic, no longer have high blood pressure and wearing a size large and tens and twelves on the bottom.  I have been doing well maintaining and am going back to basics to get the last amount off.

Oh wow, this gives me such hope! To think that I might attend my son's wedding and my daughter's graduation next year at a healthier size! And have a better life. It's almost too much to believe or expect , but I'm going for it.

Hi,

I lost 50 pounds pre-op and another 50 in the first 10 weeks after surgery (6 months to lose 100 lbs).  I just stuck to my plan.  I have 100 pounds more to lose, and I'm hoping to lose most of it the first year.  I may slow down significantly as I approach goal weight, but that's ok.  I am so much healthier already.

I think it is realistic for you to aim to lose most of your excess weight in a year, but you really need to follow the program keeping calories between 600 and 800, keeping carbs low, and exercising moderately.

I haven't cheated at all.  I'm too afraid of the slippery slope and blowing it all.  (Been there, done that -- too many times.)

Good luck with your weight loss journey.  I wish you every success.

Carol

My surgery was almost 9 months ago. I've lost 115 pounds. I reached my "goal"weight of 155 pounds (100 pounds lost) in about 7 1/2 months. The rest has been icing on the cake. I didn't have any trouble losing the last few pounds at all and am still slowly losing. I'm working on increasing my calories now to find the correct balance in maintenance.  If you stick to your plan and really work on it, it's totally doable to lose 100-150 pounds within a year!

An added note. I didn't have to keep my carbs as low as some people do on here. I kept them below 60, my calories between 600-800 and my protein over 70 grams per day. I also focused on getting in at least 64 ounces of liquids in. I averaged a loss of 3 pounds a week when I was in the weight loss phase.
