Complications
Don't know if you would consider this a complication, but about a week after surgery when my bandage came off the large incision it started bleeding, a lot, like saturating huge bandages. Dark blood. Scared me to death. Turns out it was old blood from the bruising ( I had huge footsize bruise around that incision). Bleed for 4 or 5 days. Each day less and less. I work in a rehab hospital so I had some wonderful nurses who specialize in wound care that cleaned and dressed my incision everyday. Other than that I felt and did great.
None at all. Had no trouble with liquids or food from day one and no other physical side effects.

I'm not sure how much other people could drink at first. My only complication was that I could only take in 1 ounce of fluid every 30 minutes so I had to drink Powerade Zero to stay hydrated. Other than that no problem.
Nothing I would call a complication, but rather well within the experiences I've seen related on this board. I had to fight to get my fluids in early on, but I pushed through and haven't looked back since. I had some gas pain, but frankly it's because I didn't get up and walk early enough and often enough. Outside of the hospital I only took pain med one time and took anti-nausea med twice. Heartburn was managed with antacids with my surgeon's okay.
The only food I couldn't tolerate was some really, really lean and dry ground beef, but there were other foods I could eat which I like better anyway. :)
I did have a complication, but it was not with the surgery. Once I got into recovery after surgery, my blood pressure spiked (I've never had a BP issue). They admitted me to the hospital immediately and stayed there for three days while they tried to figure out why it spiked...my theory is that my body freaked the eff out! It's that simple. I also had issues with vomiting the first two days (which kind of made me glad I was still in the hospital). It turns out that the anti-nauesea (sp) patch they put behind my ear made me sick.
I'm three weeks post-op tomorrow and after leaving the hospital I've felt great! No more blood pressure issues. General tiredness, but that's to be expected.
Good luck!
Not sure if this had anything to do with the surgery but I have been hypothyroid since 2000. My medication has been adjusted periodically during that time. My surgery was one month ago today. Last Sunday I went to the ER with heart palpitations. After 5 vials of blood and a bunch of tests it turned out my thyroid level dropped from a 4 to a 1 which made me hyPERthyroid, which does cause palpitations. I'm guessing this surgery does have an effect on all our hormones.
