NSV for Me, Not So Much for the Other Guy
I had jury duty yesterday, and there is a bus that drives us from downtown back to a remote parking lot when we're released. When I boarded the bus, it was already very crowded, and an elderly lady boarded with me. There were two seats left at the back, but one of those seats was next to a very heavy man, who took up a seat and a half. I sat next to him, and patted the seat across the aisle for the elderly lady to sit. I was able to fit into about 1/2 a seat - not comfortably, but I didn't have to stand up for the bus ride!
I really felt for the guy, who you know was watching the bus fill up and knew that someone was going to have to sit next to him. I remember the shame and embarrassment I felt in the same situations.

ouch...brings back horrid memories for me, when I had to commute into city for work...people all gave me the "oh please don't sit next to me" loo****assionaly actually hearing "tsks" and "oh great" when I sat next to someone....my eyes would always be on the look out for the thinnest person to sit next to. then I switched my bus stop so I could get a seat next to the window and squosh myself as close as possible to it. oh, I hated it. That poor man. We all know how he feels.
