I don't have anything helpful to say except to wish you well.  Our feet have to carry us around our whole lives, and having them in pain just isn't right!

I, too, have had some pain issues that have not resolved from losing my weight and surgery may be in my future. My thought is to "go for it" and trust you'll be okay for a couple of months without exercise. Being in pain sucks and the whole purpose of WLS is to make us healthier in the long run. Having your foot fixed will do that and make you so much likelier to exercise for the long-term. These are bumps in the road! Good luck and I hope you get relief from your foot pain.

Thank you. I am so sorry to hear you're having pain issues too. I'm amazed that I've lost so much weight, yet my feet haven't changed and my back and knees are actually worse. I have hope that those are temporary posture issues and someday I will feel like a healthy person. Best wishes to you!

Sorry you are going through this right now. I know you have been working really hard. I'm 100% understanding of the fear of losing momentum but over the past 6 months you've also learned how to eat. If you're not able to exercise as often as you would like, I'm sure you will be super vigilant with your food choices.

Good Luck!

Have you considered a second opinion?  I also have PF and it's one of the reasons I'm pursuing surgery.  Both my orthopedist and podiatrist don't operate for PF anymore and my research tells me to be wary of anyone who does.

Have you tried podiatrist-ordered custom orthotics?

I assume you mean you're pursing WLS due to PF. I can tell you that PF was the one thing that finally made me get off my butt and have the surgery too. Unfortunately for me, losing 86 lbs over 6 months has had absolutely no effect on the this pain I feel in my feet. I truly hope it helps you. I know losing weight has helped others on this board. I wouldn't wish this pain on anyone.

I was diagnosed by an orthopedic surgeon who told me he'd never operate for PF. But that is not really the area of specialty for an orthopedic surgeon (soft tissue). Regardless, I carried that with me through the past year and a half as I spent thousands of dollars and many hours trying every conservative measure there is to try for PF. Stretching, icing, physical therapy, tennis ball "massages", NSAIDS, night splint, acupuncture, off the shelf inserts, custom made orthotics (yes, I definitely tried those), along with good shoes, Good Feet Store insoles, cortisone shots (4 in each foot), even Graston Technique and cold laser treatment with my chiropractor. 90% of PF cases resolve themselves within 6-12 months of conservative therapy, but nothing has worked and I'm at the end of my rope.

I am interested in hearing why your doctors are against surgery, and if you know of any better options. The new podiatrist I am seeing *****commended surgery said there is also ESWT, TOPAZ and a couple nerve block procedures, and while they are a little less invasive than surgery, they are still invasive and they are not as effective in the long run as surgery. The surgery is supposed to correct the actual cause of my PF - the tight calf and plantar fascia. The research I have done into the EPF and GR procedures I am considering shows about a 90% success rate.

So I am definitely interested if there is something I am missing here, because I really feel like I have tried everything conservative (and a couple alternative) there is to try. I just know I can't keep going on with this pain.
