Post Op 1 week but feeling hungry
Good day everyone. I had my vertical sleeve surgery performed on 11/25. I am one week out today from surgery. I lost 10 pounds 1 week prior to the surgery and have lost an additional 6 pounds during this first week. The question that I have is that I still feel hungry. I do have an appointment with my surgeon next Monday to discuss this issue. Here is my daily intake and it may be that I just don't take enough in but when I do eat I don't feel satisfied. Any help is completely appreciated.
4 oz protein shake at 8 am
jello sugar free cup at 9am
4 oz protein shake at 10am
1 cup of beef broth for lunch at 12pm
4 oz protein shake at 4pm
1 cup of beef broth for dinner at 6pm
sugar free pudding small cup somewhere in between along with sips of water throughout the day
Perhaps this is normal and I can't say that I am starving by any means but my stomach sure does rumble
I was sleeved on 11/18. The first full week after surgery I felt like I was starving . I was craving unhealthy things in very large amounts. This past week , in contrast, I have not felt hungry at all. I am having to force myself to eat and if you put my most favorite food in front of me right now, I wouldn't even want to pick at it. I'm curios to see if your hunger will ebb over the next week! It really feels good to say, I'm never hungry!
Typical food day for me would be, Protein Shake around 7 am,for lunch a 2oz. serving of the WLS ricotta bake, another protein shake around 3 or 4pm, then for dinner 2 oz. of deli turkey meat and green beans. Before I go to bed I eat a yogurt with flavorless protein powder added. All of the things I mentioned I have to make myself eat. I'm just not interested in food right now. Really weird for me cause me and food were BFF's. I really hope it stays this way though! How are you doing this evening? Any of the hunger subsiding?
Oh Jenny.... Well tonight I have no hunger. I had about 4 oz of cream of chicken soup. That has kept me very full. The family had spaghetti and meatballs. Unfortunately I tried just a touch of the meatball and oh what a mistake. I chewed it up so tiny and swallowed and had a pain in my back and shoulders that told me not to do that again! It's funny how the body works now.
Yes, It is difficult to distinguish hunger right now. Your nerves have been cut, there is a ton of swelling and you cannot trust usual perception of sensations there right now. I am 13 months postop and I am still learning about sensation of hunger and full and other cues. Give yourself several months for sensation to become more normal. Always weigh and measure food and stay on your plan without grazing. Small frequent meals are your best friend. And I did need a PPI for about 9 months.
you did not say how much liquid you are drinking , you must have at least 65 oz unless told differently by your surgeon
it is probably acid and you may need to change your ppi
some people sleeves make all different sounds , rumbling is very common , Ity may go away soon or may last forevery
thing will probably improvee when you start solid food
