Hi There,

I am scheduled to have surgery on on January 22nd. My significant other currently lives in New York (I am in Washington) and I was hoping to be able to make a trip out there to see him in February for Valentines Day and his birthday the following day.

Was just wondering how soon after surgery were you approved for travel and intimacy??

Thanks!

You should be good to go for both.  I don't think the husband and I even made it two weeks to resume relations, albeit position sensitive ;)

My doc said 3 weeks... then you're good to go

My dr said there was no specific waiting period for either of those. So you should be able to "as soon as you feel like it" which all depends on how you recover. In my case, I was only sore and had gas pains for about 1 week but I still didn't feel great. I traveled about 3 weeks after surgery and was fine but I took everything slow.

Good luck on your upcoming surgery!!

I asked my doc several times about travel following surgery and he was not comfortable with it.  The timeframe you suggest was well within that uncomfortable zone.  Basically it came down to potential complications.  If something had happened whole traveling, he's not in a position to manage the care, which could be bad.

That said, I know it been done by others.  IMAO, I'd skip the visit since it's truthfully an optional event.  Wait it out and impress him with even more weight loss.  Or, he should come to you.

That's a good thought to keep in mind.

He more than likely would come to see me if I couldn't go to see him that month. It's just really important to me to do my fair share in this relationship and he was the one who travelled to see me in December and he is planning to come again in January so I really want to be the one to travel in February so that he isn't doing all the work. But even if I have to wait an extra week or two that would be fine as well.

My surgeon told me to be very careful regarding intimacy as we not only have external but internal torso stitching at 3 weeks out.  I wasn't cleared for any resistance exercise or things like sit-ups, bend overs etc.. until 6 weeks out.  Also, you need to take your hormonal upheaval into consideration. This surgery does affect your hormones.  I went from very active pre-op to not caring in the slightest until 4 weeks post-op. Everyone is different, of course, but keep your expectations in check while you go through recovery.

Oh yeah! I didn't even think about all the hormonal stuff I'll be going through at that point.... Yikes, not looking forward to that. :-/

you should get up and walk 5 minutes every hour on the plane ,to prevent blood clots , there are many people from Canada that get surgery inn Mexico and fly home a few days after

sex after surgery is a how you feel thing , start gentle , no gymnastics and no weight on your belly or chest
