This is how my post op diet goes:

day 1 and 2: clear liquids (done)

day 3-13: pureed (done)

day 13-49: soft protein (on this stage now)

day 50 and beyond: more solid foods (in my doctor's words "you can pretty much do what you want now")

check out my blog!

Everybody's diet plan is so different and every surgeon/program does a different thing. I say that because I was on clear liquids for 2 days in the hospital, full liquids and purees for days 3 - 21 then regular food. Even though I've been cleared for regular food and feel okay when I have chicken and fi****ry to stay closer to the softer foods for a while. Listening to my sleeve I guess. If something makes me queesy I back  away and plan to come back to it further down the road.

i was on clear liquids in the hospital

full liquids including anything that will go thru a strainer like 3 month baby food, of cream soup when I came home till I seen the surgeon after 2 weeks

then full food starting with softer stuff like eggs

every plan is different, my surgeon be leaves you need to eat real food to get your stomach to work right

I was on clear liquids for two days post-op, then full liquids for two weeks, then pureed food for two weeks, then soft food for two weeks, then advance to normal textures as tolerated.  I've been lucky in that there have been very few things that I haven't tolerated well, and *knock wood* I have yet to have something disagree with my sleeve to the point of vomiting.  I have found that I can't eat reheated meat (I came closest to vomiting after reheating pulled pork), so I've been cooking just a little bit of meat (I've bought individually frozen chicken breasts and tenderloins, and just thaw and cook one of those at a time) or eating vegetarian (high protein of course) meals.  I also attempted to eat steak on Valentine's Day because my daughter cooked it for the family, but that didn't settle well at all, although as mentioned above, not to the point of vomiting.

My surgeon's plan is:

  • clear liquids for 24 hours
  • full liquids for four weeks
  • purees for four weeks (high protein foods only - no veggies, fruit, etc. allowed - meat, dairy, beans, nut butters only)
  • soft foods (things you can cut with a fork - no raw veggies) for four months
  • no grains, starchy veggies, or foods with refined sugar for the first six months. After six months you can occasionally eat small amounts of grains or starchy veggies in social settings outside your home but you can't bring them into your home, purchase them in a store, or eat them regularly. So for example having a small piece of bread at a restaurant with friends would be okay, bringing a loaf of bread home from the store would not be okay.

I like the last part of your plan!  As long as eating in social situations is something you do in moderation, it makes some sense.  (And, of course, assuming you are capable of eating those things in limited quantities without being triggered to eat ALL THE CARBS.)
