Hotel cubes and other indignities

First off, yes, it's WLS related, so follow me here.

So the company I work for has grown radically in the last 3 years, to the point that we've far outgrown our current space.  To solve this problem, rather than obtain new space, we're starting to install "hotel cubes" all over the place.  If you've ever seen a regular cubicle, they are usually anywhere from 5 to 7 feet square.  It doesn't sound like much, but that's alot of space for one person.  A hotel cube, also known as a "hot cube" is smaller.  They are about 2 feet square, with a completely open back to them.  They are called "hot cubes" because the idea is that the seat never gets cold- they aren't assigned and pretty much whomever gets to the cube first claims it for the day.  If you're gone too long, you'll come back to a cube that is occupied.  They are alot of fun with consultants and interns :)

We're having the cubes installed today and a bunch of us were wasting time and talking about them. My boss, who is a good friend and very much on my 'team' in terms of WLS, was giving me a hard time.  He mentioned that they talked about giving me a hotel cube a couple of years ago considering how often I travel.  They made the decision not to because they weren't sure I'd fit in one.  He was trying to be nice, but that still kind of stung.  

Then I decided to try it out, and sure enough I fit.  BUT, when I looked at one of my previous pics in the office I realized he was right.  I wouldn't have fit in the cube by at least 3 inches.  It just goes to remind me yet again that even though I'm still me and the world hasn't changed through my eyes, alot has changed from the world's view...  and it felt pretty good!

I sat in tiny cubicles like that for my entire 13 years of school k-12. It was hell! At least you'll have a more comfortable chair.

Here is how I look at it. It should sting and be glad it does. It will always be a nice reminder as to why you don't ever want to be back in those shoes again.

UGH, I ALWAYS hated office cubicles when I was in the corporate world but I'm finally FREE.  & yes that comment would've stung...just to know I had been a topic of discussion about if I would fit in something or not...sheesh.  But HEY check out how great you're doing.  Hope you enjoy your new office space.

Yep, I've always been fortunate with my company.  They take very good care of me,and have always been considerate.  They all but paid for my surgery, (insurance + bonus = free ) they make sure we all as employees have good choices for meals (who loves the 'protein buffet' at work, this guy!), and they just don't make an issue out of size.  

There is one thing though since you mentioned it.  The only other time it's been an issue is when I had to keep reminding the travel office to book 2 airline seats for me that are next to each other...  You'd be surprised how hard that is.  I can put one butt cheek in each seat, but not when they are in different rows!
