Evolution of me: Post-Op Update!!
My surgery was Monday, April 21st. Coming up on two weeks and part of me still can't believe I went through with this! It's crazy how much you go through and prepare and understand everything "in theory" but in actuality it is so much more mind blowing than you realize. At least for me.
I had a rough first night. It was my first experience with pain medication and I was reacting very poorly to it. There were moments of severe doubt and fear that I had gone ahead and done something terrible. But once I left the hospital, was able to shower at home and sleep in my own bed for a night, I felt exponentially better. And every day since has been better and better. Right now I'm dealing with incision pain a lot from only one of the incisions. Gas still exists though not as terrible as the first week. I didn't realize how horrible that was going to be!!! They kept telling me to walk it out and I was walking so much but it wasn't that helpful! I even had pain up in my shoulders (which is apparently normal because of the air they pump into the diaphragm? Or something like that...)
I'm walking a lot (even using an elliptical for short walks), I'm drinking (still trying really hard to get 64oz in, not always easy), working hard on protein (also not easy getting the requisite 65-80 grams) and somehow making room for my vitamins!!
As I've been recuperating in New York, at my parents, more and more people in my extended family have been finding out. At first, I was a little worried but I also don't want to be ashamed of taking control of my life. This is my decision and it's been a good one! However, I didn't really have to worry. :) I didn't realize I was surrounded by such supportive friends and family. People have been so open, honest and encouraging. It's been truly eye-opening and wonderful to experience.
I don't know what the next few weeks will bring but I'm trying this positivism on for size and working towards a new life, a new me... Or rather an evolution of me
Some stats:
August 2013 - 301 (HW)
November 2013 - 263
March 19, 2014 - 285
- My dad ended up in the hospital around Thanksgiving for 2 months and I completely fell off the wagon and wasn't able to keep the weight off, unfortunately
- Found out my surgery date was Monday, April 21st
April 7, 2014 - 282
- Start pre-op liquid diet
April 14, 2014 - 275
April 21 - 267 (SW)
April 28 - 255
I try to weight myself only on Mondays so I don't go number crazy. Nonetheless, I jumped on the scale this morning, 5/2, and am down to 250.6!!!! I can't wait to see the otherside of 250, it's been a long while since that's happened!!!
I hope everyone has been well and things are going along fabulously! Thanks to this forum and site, even if I wasn't posting and just reading everyone's experience, I feel like I had a group of people who knew *exactly* what it was like to be me and that means a lot.
All the best,
Hana
