I wan to drink lot of water in one time but can't.  Its been 2 weeks past my VSG.  I fell pain in my throat. Surprisingly I am able to eat soft bread and about 2 spoons of boiled rice, soup and all but plain water hurts when going down.  I feel thirsty sip, sip sip does not satisfy my thirst for water..very unhappy feeling..(:

I would suggest skipping bread and rice - are those on your nutritionist or surgeon's plan for weight loss right now?

As for water, try adding things to your liquid like crystal light powder.  Also try different temperatures of liquids.  Some people have better luck with warm or lukewarm water than super cold water when they're this close to surgery.  Work on sipping your liquids at this point, the ability to chug water like you used to will probably return at some point - just take it easy now.

Does it feel almost like a cramp? I had the same sort of thing for the first couple of months post op and my surgeon said that it was a spasm. Some people become temperature sensitive to water for a while. Have you tried room temperature water? Maybe your water is too cold, causing the muscles to seize up. Most people feel spasms closer to the sleeve, but some oddballs, like me, experience them higher up. If you haven't been prescribed an antispasmodic (something like Levsin), ask about one!

As always, though, report any pain to your surgeon. Strangers on the internet are the least qualified to diagnose problems ;)

I hope it's something simple like spasms! Keep us posted!

skip the bread and rice, those expand in your stomach and can cause pain.

I would try room temp or warm liquids - they go down much easier for me than cold water.

try eating yogurt or cottage cheese - those moist foods will help with your thirst a bit too while also providing protein.
