Hi All :)

I am almost 8 months post op.  I was wondering if anyone has tried flaxseed to speed up weight loss.  I am considering it good idea or a bad one

My use of flax seed --good source of fiber to keep a body regular.  Also gives a "nutty" taste.  Not bad.  Interested in what information you may have in its' weight-loss properties.

I didn't use flaxseed while losing weight.  I used flaxseed after I got to goal.  I only did 600 calories so I didn't have any calorie room to add anything to my diet in weight loss mode.  I currently use flaxseed in my protein shakes.  It has the good fats that helps keep my cholesterol under control and it has fiber that helps me be regular and feel full.

My opinion - flaxseed, chia seeds, all of that stuff are great nutritional additions to your diet for a little extra fiber and some great omega-3's.  But for weight loss?  Don't even buy into that one.  If there was a magic flaxseed pill out there that would have helped any of us lose weight don't you think we would all know about it :-)

I personally use a tablespoon of chia seeds every day but I promise you it hasn't helped me lose an ounce of weight.  I used to do flax seeds too, but again I never deluded myself into thinking they would help me lose weight.  It was all about the extra nutritional value and fiber in them.

That seems to be confired by the research I have been doing since posting my last post and reading more on chia seeds, flax seeds and other add-ins.  I am going with protein and veggies and some good fat.  Nothing wrong with the chia seeds and flax seeds for fiber and omega 3, but not necessarily helpful for additional weight loss.

I used to use flax seed in my oatmeal. Need to get back to it.

I like flax seed just fine but for all the touted fiber it binds me up every time I eat it. So I don't. I don't really buy into the net calories thing anymore (former Atkins person).

This is because the fiber in flax seeds is soluble.

I love the texture of flaxseed. How much per serving should I use a day?

extremely beneficial to have these in your diet.  not only does it help with the bathroom, it both fuels your body and your gut bacteria.  necessary for building muscle and accessing those tougher to reach fat stores in your body. I would try to get a minimum of 35g of fiber from these sources per day while losing, double that at maintenance.

adding the seeds or a cereal to your yogurt or shakes is the easiest way to add these in to your diet.  or can try ot make your own protein bars with them.
