12 days out and sudden diarrhea
So I had surgery on 5/14 and up until today everything was going shockingly well. But enter the diarrhea...I've gone probably 6 times so far today and sorry for the TMI but its burnong worse and worse every time. I had some intestinal cramping yesterday and a little diarrhea last night, but the worst of it has been today. Also, today I've had no cramping or pain, just more rumbling and gurgling than usual. The onlyonlytjing I can think that would be the culprit is that I bought some atkins shakes yesterday and had one yestersay (cramping yesterday happened before I drank the atkins shake, though) and I jad another one this morning. Up until yesterday I was drinking eas advantage and muscle milk light shakes. Could the change in shakes be enough to cause this? The only other thing I eat/drink is water and watered down tomato soup. Any insight would be appreciated. If it doesn't settle down by tomorrow afternoon ill probably call my doc...I'm afraid I won't be able to keep up the water intake to stay ahead :(
It seems totally likely that the change in shakes is the culprit. I'd switch back and see what happens.
Are you taking a PPI? I found that the few days I didn't take on, I had diarrhea. My stomach has been extremely stable post-op otherwise.
And, of course, liquid in - liquid out.. but if your stomach has been stable up until now, that might not be the case.

I'm thinking ill stick to water for the rest of today and see how that goes. And yes I'm on ranitidine once daily. I didn't take it for three days in a row about 5 days ago and was fine. I've taken it the past 2 nights so I don't think its that. Sucks if it is the atkins shakes bc I actually love how they taste. Figures!
Are those the shakes that have 15 grams of protein for 160 calories? That's actually really low for protein. The Premier Protein shakes have much higher protein and are also ready to drink if you want to stick with a ready to drink shake.

Yep those are the ones. I wasn't thrilled about the ratios either but I figured it would be nice to replace one of my 4 shakes a day with something I actually like the taste of. And for now I have to stick with premade shakes or sf carnation instant breakfast for nutritional purposes until I can move onto pureeds. The CIB tastes great but even with high protein milk its only 12g per 8oz...I had to drink wayyy too much to get enough protein.
I wonder why you're not allowed to go the protein powder route for your shakes?

That's very strange! I know all plans are different, but my requirement was "protein shake" which was good, since it gave me a lot of leeway to find one that worked for me :)
