Low blood pressure 3 weeks out. Dr visit...

I've been running around 88/60. I went to the surgeon and the PA sent me to the primary care. She did all kinds of blood pressure readings, all very low. She finally decided either I am anemic from surgery or that I have decreased blood volume from chronic dehydration. She ran labs and I find out tomorrow if I either get IV fluids or IV iron. Any experiences with this?  Already went off both blood pressure meds at 1 week post op.

Thanks!

This seems to be a common problem about this time.  I was off my meds when I bottomed out to.  My PCP just told me to track it at home and up the fluids to 80 oz.  Even then I would have to get up slow or it would drop.

Good luck!

I had low BP at my 10 day post op. PA said dehydration. I have worked to increase my fluids. Good Luck!

This happened to me early on.  I eventually leveled out.  I was taken off my blood pressure meds, upped my water and sodium intake.  Every now and then I get light headed, usually in the morning.  I hope things level out for you:)

Are you taking an iron supplement and did she do blood work to check your iron if she fears anemia?

Yes. Lab work to check for anemia as well.  The results are back, just waiting for the nurse to call me back. I have a history of anemia with biweekly iron infusions, so that wouldn't surprise me.

Same issue here.  I was a little lower than you, and enough to get very light-headed and struggle to not pass out.  I was always good with fluids, so that was not an issue.  Once I got the blood sugar thing under control that was ruled out.  I was (am) low iron.  But the biggest thing by far that helped was my doc telling me to get more sodium in my diet.  My sodium was beneath the normal range, and I now keep it more toward the upper end.  It is enough to keep my blood pressure humming along at 90/60 now or a little bit higher.  I did a great job post op switching to fresh fruit and veggies and protein, and I never ever cook with salt.  Thus, I didn't realize that my sodium levels were painfully inadequate.
