Protein Question
Is there a such thing as too much protein in a protein shake? Just wondering because I make my own protein shakes every morning. This shake has approximately 55 grams of protein in it. Also, I have a strong craving for a salad but when I try to eat it, I can only eat maybe 5 - 6 fork fulls. Is this normal six months out? I was sleeved 12/18/2013.
From what I have read we only on average absorp about 30 or or so grams of a protein at a time so you will most likely not absorp all of it.
I've seen a few people say this, but I have yet to find any science that confirms it. And a lot of science that says there is no 30 gram limit. So for me, personally, I've put the 30 gram limit on the shelf with other outdated nutritional mythology.
Other people can make their own determinations of course!

Yeah I agree I have never seen any acutal scientific evidence but i would think just like everything else we all must have a limit on how much we can absorp. I am far from a doctor so I could be way off. Maybe the amount is different for each of us?
The popular theory is that we can only absorb 30 grams of protein at a sitting so anything more than that is getting "wasted". I haven't seen any empirical research that backs this up but it makes sense to space your protein out throughout the day.
As for salad, I still see salads as mostly a waste of calories with very little bang for the buck. Typical salads have very few dark, leafy greens or healthy veggies unless you are making them yourself. They are mostly full of crappy iceburg lettuce and fillers like nuts, seeds, dressing, croutons, cheese and bacon bits that aren't worth the time or effort to eat. Pointless, fatty filler. And at 6 months I couldn't have eaten very much either.
Protein first - always! Then if you have room you can have a few raw/cooked veggies.
I agree with all above posts..
it's an urban myth that your body can only absorb so much protein..
watch out for those 50-60g protein shakes usually very high in calories
your better off having a lower calorie shake ( mine is 110 cals for 24 G protein 3 g carb)
and having 2 spaced apart if you need it to meet your protein goals..
my nut says 30 gms at a time
I was allowed salad after my 2 week check up when I was allowed all foods but did not have room for any for a few more weeks
salad has very few cal and helps stop you from getting constipated , my plan calls for 8 gm of fiber a day , I get it from fruits and veggies I hate the powder stuff
Guess I don't know, when the push comes to the shove- what the deal is with protein- I kept it at about 20- 25 g. a whack. About the salad.....now, I have something to say. Fresh and raw veggies are God's gift to the taste buds. Cultivate it and enjoy. You will not be able to eat a whole lot- and stay away from the sugary, calorie laden dressings and condiments- raisins, cranberries, etc.... DO eat your protein first-- then if there is room, a bite or two of some wonderful salad goodies--mushrooms- Boston bibb- feta cheese, an almond or two...tastes to appreciate and savor. That's what enjoying eating is all about.
