I asked my surgeon this at my one year check up, and he said, "with the sleeve, there aren't any."  I'd be curious if others have heard different responses.

Are you taking a PPI?

What are you eating each day?  What are your calories and how much water are you getting?  How much protein?

What vitamins are you taking?

It might be wise to see a nutritionist who specializes in WLS in order to make sure you're on the right track, since you aren't if you want to be losing and can't.  I assume you're getting lots of labs done with your PCP to make sure everything is on track?

I am so sorry that the sleeve hasn't met your expectations. I have no advise or information to offer just feel for ya.
Hope you continue working your plan and continue losing.

My post-op has included appointments every 4-6 weeks since surgery. I know that these follow-up appointments have been critical for me. Sorry your insurance change didn't cover follow-up.

Hopefully you get your labs pulled every so often.  Most of us also take a multivitamin with iron, calcium, and d3 supplements.  In my case, I go low on the iron and d3 even with the supplements.  Really really low without them.

The one thing I would suggest is to try a good PPI for a while if you haven't tried that. The sleeve can cause worsening acid, and acid does really mimic hunger. Your stomach distubances could possibly be all attributed to acid, so it might be worth a little experiment.

I do take prilosec periodically for the two weeks. It has made a huge difference in reducing acid but I learned early on it was real hunger I was experiencing not acid (though my hunger did go down when the acid was gone so I know some of it was the acid). Thank you for the suggestion.

My brother in law basically had a sleeve when he had cancer 20 years ago and he has never had any problems with his stomach since then. I don't think there are many if any long term problems with the sleeve. Any problems usually show up right after surgery like strictures. Sounds like you may have a larger sleeve than some and they may have left more of the grehlin producing area.

Like some of the others have said acid can also mimic hunger so might be worth trying a PPI just to see if it helps, the difference can be amazing. The stomach cramping etc. sounds like either lactose intolerance or sensitivity to sugar alcohols in some products. Try lactaid when you have dairy and see if that helps, with the sugar alcohols you just have to limit them.

Thanks. Im pretty sure youre right as Ive gotten much more slippery slope with sugar alcohols in the past year or so (I use sugar free products usually and they have the so many sugar alcohols). I used to be super strict with watching them. I will try the lactaid though and will probably get back on top of watching which sugar alcohols I let in.
