Hi I'm Jessica..... I have been thinking about WLS for years. In fact I joined the site back in 2009...LOL

I feel I am finally at the stage that I can successful commit to the life change that is ahead of me. I have to teen boys and I find myself having a harder and harder time getting around. I am only 40, but am also 400lb+  I need to get healthy, and I need to be able to life my life. My knees and ankle and really bothering me.

We (hubby for support) attended a seminar last week and scheduled my first appt with my surgeon which is Thursday. I am about 90% sure I will do the sleeve gastrectomy.

I checked with my insurance BCBS of IL PPO, and they seem petty awesome 80/20 coverage, they have two basic requirements.

  • BMI being over 40 (which I am well over  )
  • Documentation from my surgeon that medically I need the surgery and that I have the understanding and education needed for success.

So I am excited.... I heard from the office they verified benefits, now once I meet with the doc they can send all in to insurance and  get that determination.

I'd love to hear from others. I live in the NW subs of IL and would LOVE to find others near me!!

Good luck to all here!

Good luck! I have BCBS TX. I made my decision for WLS in May and had surgery in July. BCBS was awesome.

Congrats on setting your appointment.  I hope all goes well.  The sleeve for me has been a life saver.  I am 18 months out and have basically maintained my loss for 6-8 months.  I am not kidding myself, my weight will be an issue for me for the rest of my life but as long as I stay on top of it and not make a lot of excuses and follow my eating plan, I should be able to maintain this healthy weight for the rest of my life.

Congrats! I also have BCBS of IL. I was just over the 40 BMI. Once I did all of the testing my Dr required and it was submitted, it took a little over a week to get the approval!

Congrats on taking the next step. I'm only a month or so out but the changes for me started all the way back during my first appointments - taking control and optimism helped me along with dropping a few lbs pre op.
