3 week checkup

I just had my three week checkup and it amounted to almost nothing. The doctor said my labs looked good, checked my incisions, and told me I was free to do any activity I wanted. He also told me not to worry if I hadn't lost much weight, that it would come off. He said some weeks I won't lose, and some weeks I might lose 5 pounds. He scheduled the next checkup for 6 months from now. The whole "exam" lasted less than 5 minutes. I guess I expected something more than that, but I am glad I am allowed to do more than just walking for exercise now.

My surgeon required monthly visits. Guess everyone is different.

That sounds about how my 2 week appointment was.  Plus time for any questions I might have had!  If you were expecting more, you should have asked for it.

That's normal. But don't just take their word for it when they say your labs are good. Get copies of everything, and keep track of them over time.

When do you see the nutritionist?  no more check-ups until 6m?  that seems like a long time without seeing someone.

Please know that it is OK to call for a check-up before 6m if you feel you need the support or that something seems off.  You don't need to see the surgeon, but a nurse or NUT who is familiar with bariatrics - even your PCP.

You have to advocate for yourself.  if you don't ask questions, they won't answer any.

Our plan doesn't include seeing the surgeon himself - unless there are complications.  We see the nursing and nutrition staff for the regular visits and the bariatrician doctor for the big check-ups.

I saw my NUT monthly at first - 2w, 1m, 2m, 3m, then 5m, 7m, 9m, 12m is the plan.

I see the bariatric nurse a lot too - 1w, 1m, 2m, 3m, 6m, 9m, 12m

I will see the bariatrician (doctor) at 6m and 12m as well

I asked if I would see the nutritionist again and he said I could if I wanted to. I kind of wish I had regular appointments  like some of you have said you have. Hos nurse has been really good about answering any questions I have emailed about, but it kind of feels like I'm on my own now that the surgery is over.

I kind of feel that way too. I'm a little disapointed with my clinic now, but I am doing fine on my own so I don't mind too much. I had a 2 week and 2 month appointment. Both were very uneventful. I saw the PA, not sure if I will ever need to see the surgeon again. I just feel very... sad that it is over? I dont know. But I do know how you feel. You are doing great though!
