Unflavored Protein Powder

Does unflavored protein really have no flavor?  Or if it does have a taste, can it be covered up by mixing it into other foods?  Does it dissolve easily into other wet foods, or does it need to be dissolved into a liquid?  I'm closer to getting a date, and I want to have the right stuff around to use when I get home from the hospital.

It's my understanding that "unflavored" means no added flavor like vanilla. Kinda like plain coffee, unflavored tastes like coffee not vanilla or hazelnut.

The powder does have a taste, I haven't mixed it withr anything yet. I am only 10 days out an still on full liquids.

Next week, when I start mushies I will try this. And let you know!

good luck!

Hi Calaska,

I used the unjury unflavored protein powder a lot.  For me, the flavor was subtle, and was easily masked by the food I mixed it into.  But I've read of others who could not tolerate it.  I think you've just got to give it a try. You can buy single serving packs from Unjury.

It mixed well into liquids.  You have to watch the temperature because the protein will denature and clump if it gets too hot.  I mixed it into yogurt, jello, pudding, mashed cauliflower, basically anything that was mixable,  and I had no trouble making my numbers for protein.  I also mixed it into chicken broth.  I found hot drinks so much easier to tolerate than cold drinks, and my sleeve did not like the sweetness of the protein shakes at all, so they were out.

I'd suggest getting a few types of protein powder in small quantity before surgery and then ordering more when you find out what your tummy will tolerate after surgery, because everything changes.

best wishes,

Carol

Thanks for the ideas Carol. Mixing it into everything is exactly what I want to be able to do too. So glad it is working for you!

Hi. I use the unflavored NOW Foods Whey Protein Isolate a lot. I will put a scoop in with a small amount of low fat or skim mil**** cubes and some sugar free Torani syrups. I will also add a scoop into my coffee after I add a bit of milk first. This is has worked out really good for me and helps me get my protein in each day.  I generally am unable to tolerate some of the flavored proteins so this works out best for my situation. Good luck to you.

Thanks, Pink!  The SF syrup sounds like a good idea. I'm assuming that if the pkg doesn't note a flavor, then it is unflavored. I will try this when the time comes.
