Is my NUT correct?

I've been reading this forum for about 9 months now, and have learned a ton. I'm finally getting very close to getting a date.  Today I had a nutrition consult for the insurance requirement. She told me what I've heard over and over -  "protein first, then non- starchy vege, then some complex carbs if you have room". But she said that is only for the healing time!  I can add more carbs later as my capacity grows. That's the first I've heard of that!  I was under the impression that I would need to add protein powder to everything, and eat very low carb. I guess I still have a lot to learn.

your body needs carbs to function correctly , in the losing phase you try to stay less than 30 gm carbs , maintenance allows more

but there are carbs and there are carbs

you want to get most of your carbs from fruits and veggies and some from dairy products , you want to say away from white carbs , bleached flour, pasta , white rice , cane and beet sugar , bread

Of course you are right!  When someone says 'carbs' I think of bread, rice, oatmeal. Boy, I need to change my thinking!  Thanks for the reality check!

As time goes on you will add healthy veggies, then some fruit and healthy carbs I have found that the key for me is staying away from processed foods and white carbs. Real, clean food is so much more satisfying.

Different nuts, different plans.  There is a popular plan on this board of under 800 calories and under 40 carbs, but not everyone does that by any means.  I added carbs back in at the 2 month mark without issue- complcx carbs... you will always want to avoid processed, white carbs like rice, sugar, etc.

That's the exact same plan I'm on as well.  My nutritionist stated that the very high protein was only for the healing process then she wanted us to gradually add back in good healthy carbs as tolerated.  I even have white rice on my plan which at 2 months out I still can not handle.  I don't really don't see myself ever being able to add it or bread back in.  It just sits too heavy and the rice feels like I can feel each grain struggling its way down.  Not a good feeling!

My NUT is in the moderation camp. I do keep carbs low, but it's not really an intentional thing, it's just a function of eating protein first and only three meals a day. I simply don't have room for most anything aside from protein!  I do have a piece of potato or a few bites of veg if I can. I haven't had pasta since March. I've had rice in su****his is working very well for me and, most importantly, I know this will be sustainable long term.  I don't want to have to "diet" for the rest of my life and that's what a super low/no carb diet would be for me - always a diet, never a lifestyle.

(I do agree that avoiding refined/processed carbs is a wise plan, but I feel that way about non-carb foods as well.)

That sounds like my NUT's plan too.  My clinic is more for a well rounded diet that is simply smaller in size and focuses on protein, then veg, then fruit, then complex carbs -  rather than a hardcore no-carbs-ever type approach.
