I was just browsing through the generaltopics amd kept seeing questions about probiotics popping up. It seemed like each question was from someone who had surgery other than the sleeve. I'm almost a year post op and have never taken any probiotics. I have my one year appointment with my surgeon this afternoon. Are there certain symptoms I should have been watching for to ask him if I need to be taking this? Are you taking it? I'm not sure I even understand what it is.

I take Pearls Probiotics YM and IC... These two give you all the strands needed for healthy digestive system. My surgeon stated that EVERYONE needs to take a probiotic.

For ME... I noticed that I could not tolerate dairy after surgery and a lot of things made me nauseated. After starting to take the probiotics, I was just fine.

I take culturelle everyday and I'm not sure that it makes any difference at all.

I read that probiotics is good to increase our levels of vitamin B12 after WLS, decreases the incidence of intestinal inflammation and decreases diarrhea. You can also get probiotics from yogurt, oatmeal, ground flax seeds, fruit and beans. Its always a good idea to talk to your doctor before taking probiotics.

My doctor recently suggested I go on them... I did for two weeks and stopped. It did worse things to my gut and digestion that without it.

I talked to my doctor this afternoon and he told me that I did not need to be taking them since I was not having any of those problems.
