1. That's a hard one since I exchanged one set of aches and pains for another due to all the exercise I do!  But at least these aches and pains are ones I've worked hard for and enjoy :D

4. Maybe a month?  I lost 25 pounds pre-op and was feeling better even at that point.

1.  A few months but I noticed a difference right away because I stopped eating any kind of sugar or wheat.  THAT was probably causing just as much pain as the excess weight.

2.  Went home from the hospital off all diabetes meds including Metformin and Byetta.  Husband was taken off B/P meds about a month post-op.

3.  Hubby was able to stop CPAP therapy at 3 months post-op

4.  Within two weeks post-op I felt better than I had in a long time...and it just keeps getting better :-)

I had a lot of new aches and pains in my hips and thighs post op. Probably not what you want to hear so I'm sorry to be a bummer, but I think it's because my gait was changing and my body was readjusting.

I went off Metformin 2 weeks pre-op and never went on. Thankfully my A1C was 5.3 when I got it tested 90 days later!

As soon as I started a low carb diet (so way pre-op), my blood pressure went from high to low low low.

I was off metformin the day after surgery, and BP meds at two weeks. My BP is low all the time now.

Joint pain varies a lot. I had really bad osteoarthritis, and that doesn't go away. My pain is the same as before, but, I am also more active. If I had the same level of activity as previous, I might hurt less. But I'm looking at two new knees in the near future, and new hips not too far down the road. I've heard from many others that their joint pain hasn't diminished, but many others have improved.

Feeling better overall is gradual. It takes a while to completely heal from surgery and get back to normal activity. I was told no lifting or the like for 8 weeks. Then you have a long period of very low calorie eating, and that often cuts into your energy level as well, and exercise can tire you out. But at the same time, of coursee you are losing weight and exercising. I think the "feel better" part is most noticeable when you are able to do things that you simply couldn't before.

Thanks for all the good replies there. I expect I would still have some joint pain from OA, was wondering though, how about muscle pain. My back and legs knot up real bad with minimal activity,

I find that the more I exercise, the less pain I have in my muscles.  They're tight from years of lack of use.  I can easily walk two miles outside as exercise with no residual pain.  As the weight comes off, it should make a difference.

My only complaint is that I have this knot in my right lower shoulder blade.  My massage therapist called this the "mouse muscle" since I sit at a desk and use a computer for hours every day.  I bought some resistance bands and use them in my office for 15-30 minutes a day to help stretch my muscles.  We'll see how it goes.

Have you looked into foam rolling?  That might be useful!  I also have issues with my shoulders from running.  I do lots of "thread the needle" pose :P

No, I've never even heard of it.  I just googled it to check it out.  Thanks!
