Hi All,

I am a week shy of 5-months Post op (Sleeve). The hair loss the last month has been staggering! I have always had extremely thick, full hair and it is incredible how much hair I have lost. Does this ever end, seriously? Also, can I get some ideas if there is a realistic change of it ever going back to how it was? Yes, I have been at or very close to my protein goals and that hasn't even slowed it down. I would have the surgery again in a heartbeat even if I go bald. it saved my life. This does suck quite a bit though and I am hoping to hear that there is a chance it may go back to what it once was. Thanks all.  (If its bad news and chances are it will not grow back, I want to hear that too).

Your hair will grow back. Takes a while, but it will.

It's not just lower protein that causes hair loss. It is also rapid weight loss and a physiological trauma (e.g. weight loss surgery). You hit the triple threat with WLS!

I had the exact same surgery date and have also lost quite a bit of hair.  My hair has really thinned out and was coming out in bunches.  However, I have noticed that just this week I'm not losing as much, my hair is starting to feel not so brittle and has actually grown a little so I think its slowing down.  I believe it will grow back just hang in there!

I lost a lot of hair from 3 months to 6 months.  At about 8 months I noticed a healthy crop of new recruits - lots of hair about 1/2 inch long sticking straight up on top of my head!  I was so happy to see it that I didn't even mind that I looked disheveled. hehehe.  By one year post op, it was looking normal again.

This too shall pass, and it is so worth it with the weight loss.

best wishes,

Carol

My hair los**** at about 3-1/2 months and lasted for about four months.  I have a healthy crop of new hair poking straight up from my head.  I tried taking biotin and all it did was increase the hair growth on my face and other areas I'll not mention

Very rarely does your hair not grow back.  You just have to wait this out and deal with it, unfortunately.

Thank you all so much for the replies! I feel much better. As I said, I don't regret it at all and if worse came to worse, I would be bald and healthy versus how I was with my thick hair!!!

It has nothing to do with protein or vitamins right now.  Telogen Effluvium (google it to learn more****urs 3-4 mos post op, lasts a few months and stops.  New hair is currently replacing what is shedding, so if you have no layers, now is the time to work some in to blend in that new growth.
