I thought I as H Pylori free, but just found out I'm not.

I think this will slow down my surgery time.  Has anyone else had this issue?

They found out that I had H Pylori in the gastroscope I had before surgery and it didn't Impact my surgery at all. In fact I didn't find out that I had it until I went to my first follow up appointment with my family doctor. He told me I had it, gave me one week of aggressive antibiotics and told me I would have the follow up blood test about 6 months later!

hope your experience is similar and doesn't impact your upcoming surgery! Good luck!

many surgeons will not do the surgery till it clears up and it can take a while with some strong drugs

Yeah, I had it and an ulcer too that was asymptomatic so good thing it was discovered with the gastroscopy. I took the round of treatment then waited for another month and then had another gastroscopy was cleared and then rescheduled the surgery. In the grand scheme of things it really didn't set me back much. Sure, a couple of months. But according to my surgeon worth it. The stomach was not inflamed or swollen and there were no problems. Funny how with the two gastroscopies both times they missed my hiatal hernia which the surgeon saw the minute he was in there so he fixed that.

My  h Pylori was discovered when they did the pathology on the stomach tissue that was removed during my sleeve surgery.  We waited a couple months, and then they put me on the antibiotics.  It all went fine.

Personally, I think it would be easier to deal with those strong antibiotics before surgery.  But I managed just fine.

Good luck,

Carol

My insurance wouldn't let the surgery go forward with a diagnosis of H Pylori.  All it required though was a course of medication to get it cleared up before surgery.

Thank everyone!

Found out this morning I have to call the doctor on the last day of my 10 day meds (13 pills altogether) to schedule a breath test for two weeks later.
