Is This Normal

It's been 3 weeks since I've been out of the hospital, after having surgery (My Dr. kept me there for 5 days) & I have yet to poop. I went twice while in the hospital but since then nothing. I do pass gas but I don't feel the need to go.

I was just wondering if this was a common thing

I didn't poop for a full week after surgery and I had to take milk of magnesia to get that to happen. Once I stopped taking the pain meds and ate more solid food I haven't been constipated. But just in case it happens again I have a bottle of colace on standby ...milk of magnesia is nasty.

I'm actually not constipated & I didn't take pain meds, even in the hospital (other than Tylenol) although I was miserable up until the 4th day. But I guess since I'm on my 2nd week of only eating yogurt and mashed potatoes I'm not eating enough to actually have to go...

1 week is common. 3 weeks is way too long. Talk to your doctor. This is not normal

no, it is not normal at all.

If you haven't pooped in three weeks, you ARE constipated and possibly even have an impact ion.

you should call your surgeon ASAP.

I concur with the sentiment that it's not normal! I have struggled with this issue since surgery. As soon as you wonder about your lack of poop you need to handle it before it become sooooo painful. :(

Post surgery I have really began to understand the need for stool softener and miralax.

I had a VSG 2/1/17.

Seems like too long. call doctor. don't want to get a blockage. Might be something to do with nerve changes from surgery. gl. diane s
