Tape residue removal

Does anyone have tips for removing the residue left from the medical tape? I had surgery a week ago and still have a large patch on my thigh that I haven't been able to scrub away. (Also- was anyone else surprised to find out that they were taped down and then rotated vertically for the surgery?)

I used rubbing alcohol to get the glue off.

Thanks! It took off the worst of the residue. It probably would have worked better if I had more than just alcohol prep pads.

If the residue is actually covering an incision, let it be.

Otherwise - mineral oil works wonders at loosening the residue (baby oil). I have this issue too since take residue stays on me FOREVER :P

It's on my thigh and not covering a incision. Thanks for the suggestion!

I prefer natural oils- like coconut or olive oil. Mineral oil is petroleum. I really don't want it on my skin.

Thanks! Olive oil took it right off!

WD40 - it fixes everything that duct tape doesn't

I'm up for a lot of things, but I'm not quite sure I'm up for spraying myself with WD 40 :). I love the smell of it though - reminds me of my grandfather.

It is actually useful for that (and lots of other things, too!) and I have used it for this problem. Rather than spraying it on, I just sprayed on a paper towel and rubbed it on with that. Better or worse than any of the other ideas suggested I haven't a clue, but it makes sense that some kind of oily solvent would do the trick.
