I'm new here, too!
Hi Everybody! I finally decided to go ahead and introduce myself since I have been lurking around for a while. I feel like I know you all already! I am in "the process". I meet with a dietician Monday morning, and after that, I will get my appt. with the doctor and at that time, will get my date. Hopefully everything will go smoothly, and I will get approved quickly since I meet all the requirements of my insurance. I am 53 years old, 5'0, 194 lbs with high blood pressure, so I qualify! I have already learned so much from reading everybody's posts and look forward to going on this journey with all of you. (I think you all are funny, too!!)
Hi ! Welcome out of Lurkdom!
We're darn close to the same starting size and age! Think you can handle swinging lizards? If you can, you're in the right place!

DS on Aug 9, 2007 with Dr. Hazem Elariny
The doctor I have chosen only does RNY and Lapband, so I am leaning toward the RNY. All my paperwork is in but he requires the visit with the dietician before meeting with him. I have been to his seminar and am very impressed with him. I live in GA so I welcome any suggestions from anyone down here! And thanks for the welcome! Beverly
Hi Beverly,
There's a Dr Smith in Atlanta that does the DS along with all the others I believe. You might want to attend an info seminar with him to get an unbiased presentation of all the WLSs. Just an idea. Here's the link: http://www.advancedobesitysurgery.com/
Good luck and keep researching!

Dr. Smith was my first choice. I went to his seminar and got the paperwork all filled out, then found out he wasn't on my insurance. If I used him out of network or even self-pay, they won't cover anything related to the surgery.....hospital, anesthesiologist, etc. Needless to say, I started searching again, and found Dr. J. Ryland Scott at the Harbin Bariatric Center. He is on my insurance plan...a little farther to drive....but I think he is the best choice for me at this time.
