What is your Goal BMI?

We lightweights seem to reach goal a lot faster than some others but I have noticed that our Goal BMI's can range anywhere from 21 to 26.  I picked 22.8 because that would put me in the middle of the "normal" range (18.5-24.9) and 150 lbs was a nice round number.  I was thinking of adjusting my Goal BMI to be 24.9 which would be "normal" . . . for me that would be 164 lbs.  How did you pick your Goal BMI? Have any of you gone past it and have to adjust it lower? How long did it take you to get to a "normal" BMI of 24.9?

My body kinda picked mine. Like my sig states... I'm short but in NO WAY PETITE.I have a large frame.  The BMI charts still say 122/BMI 25.5- to 90/BMI 18.8.  Well I got to 114 and BOTH my PCP and WLS doc yelled at me for getting to thin. SO I got back up to 123 and everyone was HAPPY. Well I got lazy and stopped watching what I eat, stress eating, grazing and got back up to 141 so now I'm really trying to watch/log etc and I've gotten back to 133 BUT my BODY like it here so maybe this is where I'm to be. I also have a pannis but removal  is not in the near future. I have been told with the skin and fat still there that would be another 5-10 lbs removed.  At 46 I now just look like a normal mom for our neck of the woods. Not to thin not to big. LOL Robin

4'10" - 47 I'm short but not petite and I will weigh more than a 5th grader

I picked a pie-in-the-sky goal weight of 115 because it was the lowest weight I can recall being since Jr High. It falls into the normal range at 21.7 BMI, so I'm good if I can get there and stick! The sticking is the hard part! Gina

My goal BMI is 21, which I picked because if I  took into account a 10-15% regain- that my surgeon said happens to many people- then I would still be in a very normal BMI.

Doc wants me at 150 which is a BMI of 23.5 so that works for me!

I picked "normal" so my first/main goal is 24.9/160 pounds.

My BMI goal is 20.99. That way I can "rebound" into a 22.0-22.8 which is where i'd like to settle. Cass

How did you pick your Goal BMI? I picked a 'normal' BMI... my surgeon gave me a weight range of 150-160 so I picked the middle of that 155... a normal BMI for my height is 157lbs or less so it was close Have any of you gone past it and have to adjust it lower? Ive changed my goal numerous times :-) As I got closer to my surgeons goal I decided I wanted to hit '100lbs since surgery lost' which was 152lbs... when I hit that I saw my NUT and she said I should aim for 145lbs so I went for that! How long did it take you to get to a "normal" BMI of 24.9? Approx 1 year 4/5 months.

First visit to surgeon - 288 ~ bmi 45.1
2 week pre-op 252 ~ bmi 39.5
Total lost - 153 Since surgery - 117!
Goal weight - 155 (mine) 180 (surgeons)
Current weight - 135 (2020 I lost 10lbs due to dedicating myself to working out more and being in better shape)

1/14/2025 still maintaining 135 :-)

I picked my weight - between 140 & 150 - which my body was comfortable with when I was "thin". I think that puts me at the top end of "normal" BMI. But I don't 100% trust BMI anymore than the old height/weight charts... if I weighed what they say I should weigh I'd be WAY too skinny because they just don't take your frame and musculature into account. It's a good guideline though.
