Yeah, me too...56 that is, will be 57 in less than a month.

As for GP's/PCP's, it really depends on the one involved. Ours in NC and the one we have now are all for it, we've had no troubles with this. Our current one is learning all about the DS from us and not only signed off without question on our surgery, he is estactic that we are doing so well.

So it really depends, some do get it!

Liz,
I wonder if yours has had a successful WLS patient in the past.  Mine did not know much about it and I've been trying to educate her and it is helping with how she feels about WLS.  I would hope that one day they will all understand and want what is the best for their patient.  My OB/GYN was all for mine because she had actually had a patient that did really well and told me I could also.

It is great that yours is listening and learning.  I'm sure it is helping that you are both so successful.

Linda, I don't remember if he has had one or not but I DO know we are his first DS'er's. It's been a learning curve for hi too but he's more than willing. And easy to talk to as well.

Hey Linda, I have to wait until my boss talks to his boss......blah blah blah....as soon as I make a decision I will post.....LOL

The GP she saw actually HAD WLS!!!!  If I remember correctly she is less than a year out and isn't losing weight anymore and has in fact started to gain......She should know better than to tell someone that WLS doesn't work.......Just really urks me!

I hope so too Jody.  I worry so much about her and with this new cardiac thing on top of all her other health problems it makes me worry even more.  She was against me having surgery so I don't think she will ever change her mind but you never know.....

She owned her own restaurant which is where much of her weight gain came from and I know she could change her lifestyle if she really wanted to.  I just know that she will never be able to get the weight off on her own at this point.  I tried to tell her to do Atkins since I believe that is a good basis for someone to "live like they had WLS" without doing it.......

She thinks like a person who hasn't had WLS though and can't see that maintaining really IS about living a healthy lifestyle and that the people who fail tend to be the ones who don't accept that you have to MAINTAIN the lifestyle for more than the 2 years it takes to get to goal.  I don't feel like I took a magic pill at this point......but I do feel like I did when I was at a healthy weight when I was younger and wanted to keep the weight off.....I can still enjoy everything I like but I have to do watch it closely and make healthier choices when that scale creeps up a bit.....I don't have to get all frantic and worry myself about it.....I just have to make slight dietary changes for awhile and then I can enjoy the things I like again.......you know what I mean.....LOL

OMG!!! I'm the "senior" light weight?? I'll be 60 in June

I figure even if I was able to hold the lower weight for just a few years it is better than gaining weight over those few years.

I have been "bad" and have been grazing. After some serious self-reflection I realized that there is a very good reason for this....I like the taste of food!

I must get this in check.

Heather, you'll just have to let your mom see your success, and while she's visiting, show her a healthier way to eat. I have a couple of very large friends who compliment me on my weight loss and wouldn't go near wls. I also have a few friends who don't talk to me anymore. You are so lucky you still have your mom around, you may need to just accept her decision and love her all the more.
