So I need all knowledgeable people on this board to let me know what I am ALLOWED to take for my knee.
I am going to try to make an appt tomorrow with my primary dr but want to have as much knowledge as possible before I go in. I have done some searches but have not really turned up anything. So can I take something like celebrex for the pain in my knee?

It has not eased since surgery but I have not let it stop me, I was hoping the pain would go away now I am thinking it is something more, So all knowledgeable people please enlighten me!

im not very knowledeable at all but I know that we can only take tylenol based products..I think if you were to tell this to your doctor hopefully he or she would know what would fall in that category..I know I was told that I could not take an anti-inflammatory because it is asprin based and not tylenol based which really wasn't fun because I really needed it..I know that some on this board have said that they do take small amounts of asprin based medicine if they really need to...

Don't take any of our words as gospel, cuz we aren't doctors, more importantly, we aren't your doctor.

Aspan is right, that we can mostly only take tylenol.

But I went to the doc the other day for my back pain and asked about the Toradol shot. It is an anti-inflammatory and I figured I couldn't have it anymore which sucked. But my doc didn't know for sure if I could have it or not and went and called my surgeon. The doc said I could have it as long as it was a shot and not taken orally. Apparently the NSAID damage comes to us if we take it orally.

All that said, call your doc and see what you can take. Ask about the Toradol shot. It works wonders for my back pain.

My ortho Dr said arthritus stenght tylonal.  Celebrex is an NASID.  Chrio says arnica  comes in pills, or cream/gel.  I have also used Trameel.  Those are both homeapathic.  I've also used Capsasan type things.  I also have hydrocodine that I take at night to sleep.  unfortunately, nothing works as good as plain old ibrupropine which we can't take.

And I THOUGHT, could be wrong, that NSAID get in the blood stream and can get to the leftover blind stomach.  So it isn't just swallowing them that is the issue.  It is the possibility of ulcers in the blind stomach that is the problem.  That is why others can take them (sleever, DS) and we can't.

Price I do believe you are right about it eing overall. I did not realize Celebrex was an nsaid. I have been taking regular tylenol for it and no relief and have had to resort to my Norco for pain relief at night. I dont want to take it anymore, too strong. I have arthritis strength tylenol and did not think to take it. I will try it and hope for the best.   Lets wait and see!

Yea, what Price said.  Good luck with your appt.  I know its hard.  Perhaps he can prescribe something that is prescription strength that won't put you to sleep or hurt your tummys.
