i have "what-if-itis"
Everyone had good replies and suggestions. For me, I was more afraid of NOT having the surgery and being faced with the worsening of multiple medical issues, and the high cost of treating the complex medical issues as I become older.
How much do you spend now, for diabetic supplies, medications, co-pays, lab work, etc.? And this isn't even talking about the toll that diabetes takes on one's body. If you have the surgery, yes vitamins and co-pays may be relatively high, in the beginning, but if you're not diabetic any longer, some of your costs will decrease. It will probably balance out and you will be in a better state of health. Once you get further out from surgery, you won't have to go the doctor's as often, so co-pays will lessen.
Vitamins can be purchased in bulk, on sale, at Costco, Walmart, Trader Joe's, etc., which also decreases the cost.
I think you're nerves are starting to get the best of you. This is normal. Remember to breathe and walk to decrease the anxiety and agitation.
Good Luck!!!!

thanks so much, sweetie. yes, i got a lot of emotional things happening in my life right now, lots of things i need to 'deal with' and i have no clue how, so i guess you're right. nerves play havoc on my body, and it's time i start taking care of myself so that doesnt happen as much. time to make ME the focus of my life!
What they all said! But,yes,I was more worried about what was gonna happen if I didn't have the surgery. I was already tyepII,and I sure as hell didn't want to wait around gfor them to take my legs off an inch at a time, lose my eyesight and my kidneys to the burn out that is diabetes.
I figured that as I lost weight and got back to being myself,if worse came to worse I could get a JOB!!!!,and help out with expenses, like I couldn't do pre op. I am in the process of starting looking for said job as I type this,so who knows? The sky is the limit after WLS!

You will feel so much better after you have surgery, you will be amazingly happy that you had the surgery done. It is difficult for people to learn to take care of themselves, when they have been so used to taking care of others. Coming to this board, is a great way to help yourself. I hope that you have some people in your life that are also supportive of your decision to have WLS.

thank you, gail. this place is SO supportive, i'm just very thankful i found such a wonderful group of people here.
i do have a good support system. my husband is an amazing guy who dotes on me. he has done his own research about this and is very supportive and knows it's a great thing for me.
my mother is pretty supportive, in waves. we have an interesting relationship, and right now it's in a good phase. she would never do anything horrible to betray me after surgery, but our relationship hits a stall now and again. she's supportive, but scared of it. she hasnt done any research, even some links i've sent her, it doesnt seem like she has read anything. i just keep trying to teach her why it's better than doing it the old fashioned way. she doesnt understand the concept of diabetes getting better because of the surgery it'self, not the weight loss.
then there is my boss who i volunteer for. she is the one who told me about it, so she is a good support, in her own way. she expects me to be just like her, my surgery to be just like hers, my recovery to be just like hers. she's overpowering at times about things. she wants to visit me at the hospital, but i know that would stress me out.
so, yeah i have some good supporters, and some not-so-good supporters, lol.

Vitamins (the right ones) can definitely be expensive but they are a necessity!
Do you or any of your friends participate in the new "couponing craze"? I dabble in it and have been able to get some really great deals (especially on national name brands like Citrical and One A Day or Centrum multis). I do "splurge" on my iron, vitamin D, and vitamin A from Vitalady.com but it's actually a pretty decent value. With some of my coupon deals included I probably spend about 50 dollars a monthy on vitamins....
Heck, that was only about 1/3 of my FAST FOOD budget presurgery!!! You can definitely fit the vitamins in your budget. It will need to be a priority.
