I may be here a while

I am still here at the hospital. My surgery was Aug 2nd. I am so frustrated.    And now that word has gotten out that I'm still at to hospital, all the negative people that had such strong opinions about me not having this surgery are coming out of the woodwork to say, "I told you so".     I'm feeling so sick and I'm exhausted. I don't need negative people around me right now. This is so much harder than I thought it would be!  The drs aren't even giving me the maybe  tomorrow speech anymore. So, I'm guessing  that I might be here for a bit.

I feel so out of control. I can't do anything active to aid in my own recovery. I can't make myself drink more than my pouch wants me to. I can't actively do anything to make it back home any faster. I HATE THIS!!!!

Hang in there. So sorry you are going through this.

You can do alot for your recovery. You need to stay focused on the things you can do, like sip, rest and walk. Dont forget your deep breathing exercises either.

Have you tried different temperature liquids? At a year out I can still drink warm liquids faster than cold.

You need to keep the negative people away. You need to stay positive and try to relax. This will allow your body to heal faster. Too much stress is not good for anyone, especially for one trying to heal.

To all your naysayers, they will be proved wrong when you are strong and healthy again.

I can only imagine how frustrating this is, I will keep you in my prayers.

Thanks Maria. As of right now, the only temperature that my pouch will keep down is luke warm. Nothing else stays down.

My husband hasn't been able to be my protector because he had to go back to work. He kept the negativity away while he was able to stay here. Now that he's gone, they are circling like buzzards!! Today a nurse kicked two meanies out of my room after she heard what they were saying. But she did it in a nice but firm way. She just used guilt to get them to let me rest. Those visitors didn't come to keep me company. They came to rub in the I told you so up close and personal! The nurse told them that I was still in the beginning stages of recovery and that in 6 months this will just be a speed bump in my rear view mirror. lol   Did I mention that I love my nurses!

I hadn't thought about the sipping, walking, sipping, rest as something that was an active part of healing. Thank you for shifting my perspective!!!

Today the dietitian came by and told me to start drinking these protein shots. That was the nastiest thing I have EVER tasted. My pouch didn't like it either. Not only did it come back up, but it brought some hard earned ounces with it! Now they are putting it through the G-tube into the remnant stomach, and that is so much easier.

I am still really exhausted and in a considerable amount of pain. The pain makes everything seem even harder. But, now I feel better about things. Time takes time. This will heal. Then I will have a fabulous healthy active life! This will just be a speed bump in my rear view mirror!!! lol

Best wishes to you and keep the negative people as far away from you as possible. You've just started a new life for yourself. Make it what you want it to be and surround yourself with people that support you.

Hang tough, Sweetie. Try adding a little lemon to the water. Are you on antacids too? Great plan to walk, sip and rest. Also good that they're adding protein through your tube. Protein helps in healing. Stay focused and kick the witches out and spread the word how awful they were and that the nurse had to kick them out. Don't get mad or hurt, get even!

Oh Hun! I am so sorry to hear you having so many issues. I was not aware that you had a G-Tube, I will tell you this and I will NOT lie to ANYONE! That G-Tube is probably a MAJOR cause to alot of your pain you are having, but I am standing here telling you this, it DOES get better and EASIER. Like Maria said, sip, walk, rest, and repeat the process. I am praying for you hun. We are here for you

I love Gina's idea to spread the word about the nurse kicking the negative folks out.

I'm glad they have a gtube in for protein and you can get some nutritian to help healing.

Although it seems like forever, it really is just a short time in the scheme of things and you will be over this rough spot soon.  I have one friend who had major complications and was in the hospital for weeks.  She has now lost all her weight, is healthy as an ox, can eat anything in small amounts and is thrilled she had the surgery.  You will be there too.  Time is all it takes.

Take your pain meds when you need to.  Don't let pain get ahead of you cause it is so much harder to control at that point.

We're here for you.  You will get over this part and on to being happy and healthy.

Is the only reason you can't go home is because you can't get down 8 oz in an hour?

Hang in there - I know its easier said than done... and don't let the negatives kick you around.  The next tie someone comes in like that, tell them to get the he** out and you don't need friends/relatives, etc like them.

I'm so sorry you aren't haviing the speediest of recoveries. But know that you are going to recover and things will look brighter soon.  As for your nurses-yeah!! Sounds like they are being your guardian angels.
Tell the meanie "friends" and relatives off!  That should feel great.
