Home from Hospital - more difficult that I had anticipated

On Wednesday I had laproscopic revision from lap band to RNY at 8:00 AM.  My surgery took 3-4 hours.  I don't remember waking up until well after 4 pm in my room.  At that point, and all night long, I didn't feel like I was necessarily in much pain, but I was terribly nauseated and the room kept spinning, almost like I was drunk.  I had to keep my eyes closed through the night and well into the next day in order to keep the spinning in check.  I didn't even walk because the nurses were afraid I'd pass out!  The nurses were very helpful with giving me the Zofran, etc. When I went down to xray they had to take me down on a stretcher.  Scooting from the stretcher to the xray table was incredibly difficult!

I was really concerned that it was the anesthesia and/or pain medication that was making me feel so sick.  But both my surgeon and the anesthesiologist, who came by on day 1, said that it was all the mucking around in my gut.

I felt significantly better on day 2 but then the gas pain****!  At least I knew what they were and how to combat them.  Walk, walk walk.

I'm home now and am walking and sipping and generally feeling okay.  I just wanted to let you all know that the first couple of days were a little harder than I expected.  However, I am healing and on my way to being healthy and skinny!

I did get all of your swingin' lizard messages and I really appreciate all of them!  And thanks for being so supportive and kind in all ways.

Home is a great place to be.  But my Drs keep folks for 2 nights with a RNY that isn't a revision so I would say you are doing great.  Each day does get better, slowly.

Rest, sip, walk, repeat.  You will be feeling great soon.

I absolutely agree! I came home the next day after my RNY.  I slept better at home in my own bed.  Sip, walk, sip, walk, and rest in between.
