Gotta laugh....or you'd cry

So my sister, whom I haven't seen in 5 years (since my wedding) comes in to town with my niece and we go out for my niece's birthday.  I force my husband and daughter to come along so I can slay some of my demons.  As in, I won't let her get to me. As in I know she is narcissistic *****  As in, don't expect much!


So here I am looking all fabulous-hair, make-up, clothes....and of course, 70 pounds lighter.  NOT ONE WORD!!!!!!!! Not even, you look good.  Not even, nice to see you! 

I really didn't expect much though (okay I expected to be disapppointed-even took a Xanax to handle the stress) so I am okay with all of it.

I no longer allow anyone else to determine my self-esteem and I know I looked fab.

For all those who have just started this process, remember to laugh and remember it doesn't matter if nobody else changes-you will.

I know exactly what that is like...  I have two older sisters that are MO, but in denial about it that both think me haing WLS was a mistake... they told other people that but not me, they to this day do not talk to me about my surgery or how I look, nothing.  I just go along with that and do not mention anything about it in front of them.  However... ok this might be mean... but I DO mention how I feel, how much more I can do, and have mentioned the size I am now wearing (in front of them, not to them!) ;)


All you can do is take care of yourself!

not mean at all, just the truth.  Okay, maybe a LITTLE bit passive-aggressive LOL

When someone you know well does not comment, I think its because they are jealous.  You know you are looking fabulous and that is really what counts.  We did this for ourselves.  Chalk that slight from your sister up as her problem.

Thanks Lin.  People have told me for years that she is jealous.  I'm finally starting to realize it must be true.

It's her loss, not yours. An open two way relationship can benefit both sides very much.  I guess she doesn't understand that!

At least her personality and thoughtlessness was know to you before.  I'm sure you did look wonderful and she felt horrible about it.  that's ok.  You know  everything you need to.
