Hurricane Irene - Are you ready?
we are at latitude N 38.11., longitude W 76.29. The only Maryland county, St. Mary's, in the hurricane zone. As we are a few hundred feet from Chesapeake Bay, things are gunna get dicey here. They have already begun recommended evacuations from the lowlying coastal areas nearby, such as St. George Island in our county. We are about 16 ft above sea level, which is high ground in this area!
We're good to go for preparations, although we don't have hurricane shutters, and there is no way we can plywood all our windows even if plywood were available here. The bathtubs are filled with water (including the one we'd have to get in if we needed to run from flying glass, I just thought of that!), Food is cooked, fridge is filled, drinking water stored. Car packed and gassed up in case we have to evac. Just waiting on a call from a friend who I asked to borrow a corner of her basement for DH, our labradoodles and me.
DH and I picked up all the potential airborne projectiles and either stored or tied them down. A bit worried about the water that will come over our back yard. It's pretty bad even in a bad thunderstorm, and DH didn't want me to build a berm this spring. But it's gunna get built this fall, that's fur darn sure!
Ok, enough of my ramblings. Everyone stay safe, and swing lizards for those of us expecting Irene to visit. Nothing more to do except bring in a couple buckets for roof/ceiling leaks, make myself a protein coffee, and wait for Irene, hopefully she's nicer than people say.

This sounds oh so familiar.
We had a town 30 minutes south of us get hit by a tornado just a week ago, fortunately only one person killed and only a few dozen seriously injured.
A few days ago we were hunkering down for more tornados in the area and we did all the same prep work. The storm passed my town but a tornado did hit inland.
Be safe everyone
