What great support he would have with you helping him!!  I can't think of a better way to start out this journey than with someone who has been there beside me.

My insurance policy is one that only allows for 1 WLS per lifetime.

Would he do the research or would he just want you to tell him about it?  I can't see my DH ever doing any kind of research like that even though it is a very personal choice for everyone.

Good luck!!

He would do some of the research himself, then ask me questions if he doesn't understand something, or finds some information that is countering what I've said.  He told me already that he trusts what I tell him to be true, more so than his PCP.  While his PCP is supportive, he's not informed about what its REALLY like to be a WLS patient.

When we go to the seminar next week I'm going to ask them about Reactive Hypoglycemia and get their take on it.  Betcha they poo-poo it.

I can only guess what they might say about DSrs. lol  Set 'em straight for me, Jody.  If anyone asks, Dr Kemmeter in Grand Rapids is one of the best DS surgeons out there.

When I went for my seminar, they said the DS was still "experiemental"... I'm really looking forward to what they have to say now... almost 3 years later.

Luckily, Tom has a good PCP. Many PCP's don't recommend WLS, but I was also fortunate that my PCP recommended WLS. It wasn't even on my radar. That is how much I was in denial about the weight. Being diagnosed with severe sleep apnea, erased any lingering doubts that I had, about having the surgery. That, and being pre-diabetic. I was more afraid of diabetes than I was of having the surgery done.

If he decides on WLS, he will have a wonderful built-in support system with you on board.

This is great news Jody!  You'll make an awesome coach because you'll know just what to say and you'll know what to not say and let someone else say it.  :)

I was lucky that my PCP recommended it for me too.  It wasn't on my radar and then suddenly it was surgery day.  Yahoooooo!
