Goal question

I am in the pre-op process of having a revision of my lap band surgery (which totally did not work) to gastric bypass.  I will probably end up having the surgery in October (hopefully).  I have completed almost all of my tests and my insurance has paid for other people to have this same revision.  I am trying to decide if I am being realistic in setting a goal weight at 145lbs.  I am currently 231lbs and I'm 5'2.  I guess since the lap band surgery that I had 4 years ago didn't work at all that I'm wondering if I'll even lose 50lbs with the surgery....I'm very nervous that I won't lose hardly any weight!  Any advice would be appreciated!  thanks!

I've seen some folks lose a little slower after having a revision but if you take full advantage of your honeymoon period, you should be successful. I think you can set your goal weight a little lower but you'll just have to wait and see what your body wants to do.  I hope you get your approval with no hassles!

You will be fine!!!!!  Don't be surprised it you have to lower your goal weight.

Follow the rules, avoid "bad" carbs and sugars, listen to your pouch and learn your sign of fullness (won't happen right away) and listen to it!!  My sign is hiccups but others get a runny nose, sniffles,  or runny eyes.

The most important thing is don't think because you are losing weight that you can still eat anything that you want.  It will slow down the losing process but it also doesn't help you to get rid of bad habits.  Take advantage of the honeymoon period to lose as much as you can!!!

I think you are being totally realistic in setting 145 as your goal weight, but don't be surprised if you go below that.

I'm almost 5'7" and lost 120 ish pounds bringing me down to 120 ish with ease.  I actually got down to 117 and then put on a little as I gained muscle when I started exercising religiously.  I was 116 for about 5 minutes when I was in the midst of "the gall bladder attack from hell"  and didn't eat for a week.

I'm 5'3" (was 5'2" when I had surgery) and got down to 123.  I'm now around 132 and would like to get back down to 125-127.  I was very comfy there.

Don't be surprised if you do get below 145 and don't let a number rule your success.  Let your honeymoon period work for you and get as much weight off as possible during that time so you do have some "bounce back" room.

Good luck on your revision.  I think you will love your RNY.

I am 5'1 1/2" and my surgeon set my first goal at 140.  After getting to that, I wanted to get to a normal BMI so I set my goal at 132 and got there.

I would think 145 as your first goal is a great one.  I have also heard that some lose a little slower with a revision also so don't get upset if it does come off a little slower.  It is not a race, it is for the rest of your life!!

My orginal goal was 140, my surgeons was 130.  I'm 117 these days and just keep on keeping on although I am hearing almost daily, "you aren't going to lose any more, are you?"  If I do, I do,  if not, that is fine too.  I'm happy where I am and happy eating the way I am.

Good luck on your approval and revision.

I am 5'2" and started this process at 220 lbs. I am now at 126 and only 7 months post op. I think your goal of 145 is VERY realistic and you probably will actually dip below that weight. Good Luck on your journey and hope that you get a date very soon for surgery

I think that's totally possible and you will most likely go lower than that.

I'm 5'1" and weigh 120 pounds.
