Losing friends even before your WLS

Oh boy! I have read where some people have lost friends after WLS but yesterday took the cake for me. I had my all day pre-op on Monday and a "friend" went with me knowing ahead of time how long I would be there. Well, she forgot her phone and asked if she could use mine while I was in getting testing. After all of my testing was done she seemed her normal self. We even stopped for chow on the way home. Talked about us having to go back the next day for my surgeon appoinment. So yesterday about two hours before we would have had to leave she emails me stating she went through my emails on my phone and saw where one of my other friends made fun of her horse. She stated it was purely accidental as she thought she was in her own email (yeah right!) and since this friend made fun of her horse's picture she wasn't taking me to my appointment that this friend who lives 3 hours away could take me. I knew my mouth was gapped open as I read it. The email she was referring to was months ago so she had to really go back far to see it. Also the email she was referring to wasn't even bad. I really think it is a WLS issue and she was just using an email as an excuse. Heck, I haven't even had it yet. When I first told her I was going to have WLS she tried to talk me out of it saying how people she knew who had it was all unhealthy etc etc. Anyway, I did make my appoinment and I have 21 days until my surgery. I am shocked that she went through my emails like that but happy to have a nay sayer out of my life.

Did ya' all have friend issues even before you had your WLS?

Yes, I had a friend who said that her Aunt had it and that her Aunt "changed" so much and wasn't the same person and no one liked her Aunt's new attitude.  Probably b/c for the first time in that woman's life she was putting herself first and no one liked it!  And she told me I'd better not change and let that happen to me!  But anyway, you will find people become jealous, or try to sabotage your losing weight, etc...all out of their OWN insecurities.  Hang in there and surround yourself with upbeat positive people.  Don't let anyone distract you from being the best person you can be!

Thank you. I feel a sense of relief that our "friendship" is over especially after all of this. I guess that tells me quite a bit.

I wouldn't go through my DHs emails, much less a friends.  That is enough to want her gone anyway.

My friends are stil my fiends.  They even waited until after surgery to tell me all the horror stories.  Some folks just don't have enough drama in their lives and have to stir up trouble.

Thank you and I so agree. If her phone was here now I wouldn't go through it. I just don't get people like that.

Hi Fran....

So sorry you are going thru this....isnt it sad that someone like her would snoop while you were in your appt....I guess if she was going to snoop, she got more than she bargained for...She invaded your privacy!!!  Probly wouldnt have been that much support after your surgery either...Best you find out now!!  Hugs to you for continuing on your weight loss journey...without her!!!  Best of Luck...

Well REAL friends don't pry into others personal business. In this case if you accidently opened up a wrong e-mail account you would know INSTANTLY that it wasn't yours.  To continue to scroll back to months ago e-mail also says that this so call friend was now being intentionally nosey and doing things a REAL friend would never do.

From my perspective I would say you have not lost anything from this except that this was a person who was more of an aquaintance not a friend.  Be glad you found out who she really was now verses later.

Real friends are with you though life, the rest well they aren't real friends
