How small is too small?

Thank you all! I have been eating lots of pasta, we just spent a week in Italy for my oldest daughter's wedding in Tuscany and I ate and ate! I'm eating too many sweets right now, and I do dump and it is not pleasant. I will try some of Tazz's suggestions also. I just found I can wear my youngest (13 year old) daughter's discarded size 16 little girl size jeans, but they are a little long on me and too short on her! I've been pretty steady the last week or down, down a bit and then back up to the 109. My NUT said that malnutrition shows in the webs of the hand between the thumb and forefinger, when it is just skin there I think, and a hollow place in the temple area of the face, just to the side and below of my eyebrows.

I've never heard that about the skin on the hand.  I just checked and there is a little skin there, not the whole thing.  I can actually see the light through it.  I don't see any holow place in my temple area though.
I am wearing children's clothes, too.  I have been wearing size 12s but they are usually pretty short on me.  I bought a pair of sweatpants today that are a size large...in girls anyway.

Helen,
I'm with some of the others, I would not add bad carbs they are pretty hard to control for most of us!!  I haven't had this problem.  Can you add full fat cheese and some nuts.

Good luck.

if you are 5' 2 and the equivalent of 100 pounds, you need to stop the weight loss and fast.  You might even need to gain some weight to get some nutrition in and get back on track.  I have been in a similar situation since December of last year.  Last October I weighed 170 pounds, I had originally lost 100 pounds and got to 160 but gained the usually 10 pounds bounceback but I was fine with it/  I was in my size 12 gap skinny jeans and I was happy.

Then Oct. 26th, 2010 came and nothing has been the same.  I wont go into great detail but I had major complications - 4 surgeries - Oct. 26, Nov, 8, Nov. 11, Feb. 15, 2011 - all open for bowel obstruction, perforated colon, G tube, illiostomy and ultimately reversal of the illiostomy.  Originally from Oct to Dec when I Was released from the hospital, I Lost 25 pounds which we were upset by and they put me on Tube feeds in the hospital and the at home because I was malnurished - there were times where I was on Nothing by mouth for a few days at a time  They tube feeds worked great but were a pain - they took 14 hours per night being hooked up to an IV pole to my stomach tube - thankfully there was no pain involved and I ddint' have to drink the stuff.  It gave me 750 calories per day and 125 grams of protein.  Most of the time I was supplementing with food - what little I could get down = partially  I had no appetite, the pain was excrutiating and the food was horrendous.

After 5 weeks(I think) I finally stopped it  =  I couldn't take it anymore.  I just decided to eat more and see if I could gain some weight on my own.  Well, that didn't work so well.  I started losing at a rate of about a pound per day until I was down to 125.  When I went to the surgeon and she weighed me, I thought she was going to flip.  She said, I had to get the calories in somehow - add protein shakes - if I had to, drink 3 or 4 them per day to get the nutrition and calories, she didnt' care what i did, get the calories and nutrition.  JUST GAIN WEIGHT - or I Was going back on tube feeds.  So, I started eating - I couldnt' eat a lot at a time but I ate often and against everything I was taught, I ate high calorie foods.  Pasta's, snacks, potatoes, calzones, pizza, french fries, hamburgers, cheese steaks - anything that would put on weight.  With all that I was eating, it stopped the losing but I still couldn't gain.It was amazing.  Anyone else, with what I eat would have gained 100 pounds by now. It is crazy.  So, my Endocrinologist put me on Pancreatic Enzymes - they help you absorb your foods better - fats, carbs and proteins.  I gained 10 -15 pounds.  I am now huvering around 140-142 and fine with that.  I stopped the enzymes and am continuing to eat the high calorie foods to maintain but I am not losing anymore.  I did notice that  few days that I didnt' feel well and I didn't eat much and I lost 3 pounds.

Try asking your doctors for pancreatic enzymes they really work.  As far as malnutrition - do you know what your liver enzymes are?  When they are low, that is a sign of malnutrion.

Thanks all, I know my blood work has been fine all along, I don't have it with me right now but even my hematologist wasn't concerned about anything in my blood except for my iron, and I had an iron tranfusion a few months ago, but I had that issue before my surgery, my body just doesn't handle iron well. I will look at the liver enzymes when I get home just to double check though.

I think that's nonsense. Malnutrition shows in our LABS. Not having a lot of body fat in a particular place on our body doesn't mean anything one way or another when it comes to malnutrition.

Let's put it this way: you can weight 100 pounds and be eating high quality healthy foods and not be malnourished and you can weigh 150 pounds and be eating nothing but crap and be malnourished. Of course, if your body fat drops below essential levels, that's bad, but you can't tell that by looking at one single body part.
