My Thyroid Lab Work Results - any experts?

When I was at my GP doctor last week he mentioned that my thyroid was a little low and that he'll wait to see how it goes as I'm losing weight to adjust my rx.  I've taken thyroid medication for 34 years.  So yesterday when I got my results it made me start questioning if that was why I was in that stall for 11 days.  Below I've listed previous results along with this weeks results.  Any experts out there?  Your thoughts?

TSH Thyroid Test  - Standard Range 0.35 - 4.00

  1/27/10 - 0.01
  3/24/11 - 3.91
10/13/11 - 0.28

The stall is not from your thyroid. Looks like you are a just a  little hyperthyroid.

Stalls come and go. Just follow your plan and keep moving. The weight will come off.

Hang in there and keep up the good work!

My Mom was over active and she was losing 6-7 pounds a week and my sister n law was under active and gaining about the same.  I don't know how low it has to go to consider you under active but I supposed anything low/high could contribute to weight changes.

Just keep following your program and add some protein if you can. Hopefully your doctor will figure out your levels soon.  My Mom ended up having her thyroid out.

Thanks Roz.  I'm seeing the doctor this next week to go over all my labs.  I need to just relax and let him figure it out and stick with my plan.

You are a little hyperthyroid (overactive) but that could be because you are losing weight.  Your thyroid hormone dose might have to be adjusted down if your TSH continues to be suppressed.  TSH values are opposite of what you think.  A low number means overactive and a high number means underactive.  Alot of doctors strive to keep their patients at 1.0 or just below.  So you aren't too far off.  I wouldn't worry too much.  It probably isn't responsible for your stall unless it is making you hungrier than usual and you have increased your food intake.  I'm not a doctor, but I have done tons and tons of thyroid scans in my 25 yr career.  I'm a nuclear medicine technologist.

Tonya,
I asked for expert advise but didn't really expect to get any LOL.  Thanks for educating me on the TSH values being opposite of what I think.  I'm going to meet with another doctor that is suppose to go over all my labs this week so hopefully he will  agree with my GP doctor to just wait to let my thyroid settle down while I'm losing weight.  Thanks for taking the time to give me your advise/opinion.

I have had Hashimoto's disease for over a year now and have read lots and lots of books on the thyroid. I am not an expert but this is what I know.

The 'normal' range of TSH as of now is .3 to 3. It used to be .35 to 5 but it has been updated. What your ranges say is completely normal. Your ranges are going to drop and rise till you stable out your weight. I have met and talked to a quite a few women who have had thyroid issues before surgery who were leveled but when surgery hit their endo was wigging out due to ups and downs.

From what I am seeing your not hypo or hyper. When you lose this much weight the fat your losing releases hormones, which affect the thyroid (amoung the other changes your body is making) I am almost positive that it is not causeing your stall. Stalls are normal! You will start losing again :)

Maybe lowering your meds might help from the low drops but I wouldn't go as far as hyperthryoid treatment. Radioactive iodine treatments will almost garantee you to have hypo after. So before you go that route let your body settle first.

I expect to have these same issues when I have surgery and I know my endo is just going to love me lol I wouldn't stress until you have lost a little more weight. Thyroids are tricky critters and if it weren't in my neck I would punch it.... well maybe not that much lol but it erks me sometimes.
Good luck and don't stress! If you have any questions just message me, I can direct you towards a couple gals with this:)

Danni,
Thanks for taking the time to respond to my post.  It makes me feel better that everyone thinks it's normal to have a stall at 3 weeks out etc.  For the last 2 days I have droped 1/2 lb each day.  I hope I don't revisit that stage for a long time - very depressing.

Thanks for your advise.

Yep just a tad hyper..  I lost my thyroid a couple yrs ago.  When I was 250lbs and taking 125mcg of synthroid I was testing 3.9 now weighing 218 im testing 0.63 so as my weight keeps dropping im sure they will have to lower my dosage so I don't become hyper

I am not much of a help on a hypo thyroid (even though I have it too). I'm also learning. So thank you for posting such a good question!

I did want to say to you though that for some reason it is very standard for most of us to stall in weightloss at around 2 or 3 weeks post op. Our bodies seem to have the ability to grab ahold and screech weightloss to a halt for a good week or even two! Then BAM!!!!!! One day soon you will get on that scale and there will be a very significant number as your reward. Try not to fret. This will work!

Good luck.
