I'm Baaaccckk!
Hello to all,
I have been away from here for quite some time and many of you might not know me. I realize I need the support and help of you all to get back on track and finally realize my goals. I want to start by introducing myself.
I had a RNY on November 17, 2008 so I am over three years out. From the beginning I groaned that I had a larger than average pouch and also very quickly discovered that I did not dump. These things let me return to some of my previous bad eating habits. I never reached my personal goal of 135 pounds but according to my surgeon I had reached an OK weight. He was perfectly happy if I never lost another pound under 150. I hovered between 145 and 150 for two years. About a year ago I started slowing picking up some weight and now I am up to 165. I have already outgrown most of my clothes and I am terrified of continuing to gain weight. I maintained despite poor eating habits because I was running so much. Then when I quit running it started to add up.
Part of the reason I quit coming around here was time.....I rarely have computer time and I access facebook from my android app. I wish obesity help had one! If I am totally honest the other reason I quit coming here was embarressment. No one here was anything but helpful but it was hard to see others having so much success and eating almost all protein when my habits were so bad. In truth, I have no desire to eat almost protein and feel that I would never be able to maintain that for life. I do think I need to avoid sugar and eat whole grain carbs in moderation. I feel so much better when I actually do that.
So here I am, three years postop. 30 pounds from my personal goal and 15 pounds up from where I was. I have started eating better and am starting to gradually start running again. I am hoping to rekindle relationships here and take the freely offered support from this board.
On a personal note, my grandson is now 19 months old and growing like a weed. My daughter is expecting another baby, this time a girl, in June. We are thrilled. I am still working as a nurse but with a new manager that I don't see eye to eye with. Work has become a stressful place that I don't like going to. I am looking for a new position at the same hospital since I have been there 20 years and I need to think about retirement.
Hope everyone is doing well and plan to be around more again,

Welcome back Cheryl. Glad you came back to this site. I know that for me maintenance is so much harder that losing the weight. I don't dump either and find myself eating inappropriately during stressful times. I have not exercised much since December, but today is a new day!!
I have to do protein drinks because I want the freedom to just eat a salad if I want to and not have to worry about counting my protein in my meals. I do 3 protein drinks a day.
Let us know if we can help you in any way. Posting on the Menus and Miles everyday really helps me to stay accountable. My problem is late night snacking while watching TV.
Good luck. Congratulations on the upcoming granddaughter.

Hi Cheryl!
Glad to hear you are back. Kudos for you, for realizing that you needed to make a plan. Thats the first start. I know my big fear is regain, as everyday I feel almost normal now. I can see how very easy it will be to fall back into old habits.
Congrats on being a grandma! How exciting. Those are some lucky kids to have an active and healthy grandma in the picture!
Look forward to hearing more from you!

I'm a lurker/occasional poster that always felt welcome here but for some reason as I got closer to my Plastic surgery I switched to lurking and posting more on the Plastics board.
I live in Israel hence my calculations in metric: way back when I had my first WLS,a permanent ring in 1993,I weighed 120K at a height of 152cm,I think 5ft. I lost some weight and got down to 92K and slowly gained about 1K a year but vomited regularly almost everything I ate.I thought this was normal!
I did a barium-swallow where a narrowing of the esophagus was diagnosed and a different WLS surgery was advised - this was in 2001 and I was subsequently revised to VBG,another type or permanent ring. I then developed severe GERD and still vomited. So after several years of GERD meds and alternative therapy and minor weight gain (I now weighed 104K) in 2008 I had RnY.
I lost slowly, took my supplements and could finally eat and enjoy my food! I lost down to a weight of 74K at my lowest and gained a bit up to a weight of 84K. Meaning I never truly hit a proper BMI based on my height but I am healthier Thank GD.
I suffered terrible from Panni rashes and passed the medical review for Panni removal which I had in August 2011- three kilo was removed.
Still not a proper BMI but flat tummy and somewhat better body image and attitude on myself. I even lost a drop more and mow weigh 77-78K but would like to weigh 70K. However I cannot
emotionally give up all carbs. I start my day with a protein drink and try for protein small meals but I still like my chocolate/cake nut in much smaller portions.
I'm not perfect nor a great example for weight loss. It is a change in eating and lifestyle!
