Sat just for fun, cause I can't ever remember on Friday
1. When was your surgery and what kind did you have?
2. Who lives in your house with you? How does that affect your eating/cooking?
3. What area of the country(s) do you live in? Does your area affect how you eat?
1. I had RNY on 9-9-10. I lost over 100lbs all together in the 1st year and am in maintainance.
2. It is just DH and me though the week. DS comes home on the weekends (he is IDD and lives in a group home. I basically cook meat and a salad or veggie for supper during the week and something more supstanctial on weekends.
3. I am in western NC at the edge of the mountains. Being from the south, I love biscuits, grits, cornbread and fried chicken but don't eat those anymore. I am luck I was raised in a family that ate lots of veggies, not fried, and very few sweets. I have come and gone through vegetarian and organic but now tend to eat as natural as possible. I grow a pretty good sized organic garden in the summer and we eat almost entirely from the garden plus protein. I think I always ate pretty healthy but just too much. DH is 6'4", I'm 4'11" and I think I just tried to keep up with him.

1. When was your surgery and what kind did you have? Mine was Aug 2007 and I have a Duodenal Switch (DS).
2. Who lives in your house with you? How does that affect your eating/cooking? My hubby and youngest son (23) live here. I've finally converted them to low carb and high protein--including protein shakes/coffee. Hubby's cholesterol, blood pressure and blood sugar are finally under control. While both my guys fight their weight, they aren't obese.
3. What area of the country(s) do you live in? Does that affect how you eat? I was raised in the South but live near DC now. I really don't like to cook or have that much time to do it. I do look forward to the farmers market every year where I buy fresh tomatoes and fruit, and sometimes grass-fed beef.

2. Who lives in your house with you? How does that affect your eating/cooking?
Just DH and me. We don't cook much. We reheat a lot. DH eats anything and loves leftovers. Sometime he brings junk in the house, but he doesn't flaunt it. He helps keep me on track, especially with my nighttime eating issues.
3. What area of the country(s) do you live in? Does your area affect how you eat?
South Texas, San Antonio. It really doesn't affect my eating much. Mexican food doesn't sit that well with the pouch these days. Too much fat and carbs. I just don't like the heavy food much. I usually pick some type of fajita if Mexican food is on the agenda. There is such diversity in food here that it really hasn't impacted my food choices.
My Dad and Mom were born and raised in Cherokee County NC. Dad and my extended family are still there. It is a beautiful place to live Price!

1. When was your surgery and what kind did you have? August 2009. I had RNY.
2. Who lives in your house with you? How does that affect your eating/cooking?
It is just DH and me(and Little Wille(Mini-Daschuand). We have 2 grown children who are married and have daughters. DH doesn't really care what he eats. He goes through spells of bring chips and junk into the house and then he stops for a while. I usually cook on the weekend and just reheat during the week.
3. What area of the country(s) do you live in? Does your area affect how you eat?
I live in Southwest Georgia in a small town. I grew up in the south - my mom made homemade mac & cheese for me almost every day growing up - I love it!! I grew up on fried foods and that you had to clean you plate. The cleaning your plate has been the hardest thing to get over-and I am over it now!! I love trying to find healthy ways to cook the foods that I used to love that were cooked unhealthy. Substitute things and cooking different ways. I went from eating out 3 meals a day 5-6 days a week to trying to only eating out 1-2 times a week if any.
Can't wait to read everyones response.

I just had my RNY done on 2/29/2012.
2. Who lives in your house with you? How does that affect your eating/cooking?
I live with my husband and two children, ages 18-yrs and 11-yrs old. Right now I'm not doing any cooking since I'm on all liquids. Hubby and the kids have been handling their meals.
3. What area of the country(s) do you live in? Does your area affect how you eat?
I live in Northeast Florida (Jacksonville), but grew up in Hawaii. Being that I'm half Filipina, I was raised eating a lot of rice. That has stopped since starting on this new journey of mine. Hubby and my DS (18 yrs old) eat pretty much whatever is put in front of them. DD (11 yrs old) is rather picky, so she presents the challenge when it comes to fixing something for meals.
1) I had VSG surgery on 12/1/10, and I can't believe it's been that long ago!
2) It's my DH and I. I think we have a good system for eating and cooking. We usually cook 2-3 times a week, and eat leftovers a lot. We'll go out maybe once a week. DH usually knows what sorts of things I eat, and when he cooks, he usually accommodates my needs.
3) I live in Ohio where there's lots of farm country around me, and also access to good markets. However I do love the growing season when I can get local fresh fruits and veggies. Fresh corn on the cob is a huge weakness for me because when in season, it's picked in the morning and in my cooking pot that afternoon. Can't beat it.
I had a DS in 2002 and a revision to reduce malabsorption and my changed to a pouch in 2010.
2. Who lives in your house with you? How does that affect your eating/cooking?
Just me and my 16 year old daughter, along with 4 Chihuahuas. It is a challenge with my daughter because she and I were eating buddies from day one. She eats the way I used to and didn't want to stop just because I did. In fact her biggest fear was that I was going to force her to eat the way I do and she rebels at the thought. Fortunately I don't have a problem having things in the house that I don't eat as long as I make up my mind that I won't eat them. She would have fast food every day if she could and whenever she gets money that is what she does. The more I try to encourage her to eat healthier the worse she wants to eat. She is overweight and working on being obese and she hates being overweight but as she says, she just doesn't want to stop eating to lose weight.
My dogs help because they eat a lot of the many leftovers we have. My little girl has doubled her weight, from 4 lbs to 8 lbs or more and the others have gained, too, except for JJ, the oldest who has congestive heart failure and is pretty frail. I wish he would gain some weight.
3. What area of the country(s) do you live in? Does your area affect how you eat?
I was born and raised in Los Angeles, Ca and moved to Portland, Or in 1981. I don't think we have any special kind of regional food here, at least not that I have noticed. In fact, L.A. was worse in that it had a lot of 24 hour places available.

WLS 10/28/2002 Revision 7/23/2010
High Weight (2002) 240 Revision Weight (2010) 220 Current Weight 115.
I had single incision lap RNY on 11/7/11. I developed a stricture around Christmas time and have been battling with it since. I've been dilated twice and have to go for a third dilation on 3/15 :( I have a lot of trouble with food b/c of this. I can only tolerate liquids/soft foods :(
2. Who lives in your house with you? How does that affect your eating/cooking?
I live with my DH and my two DS who are 8 and 3 y/o. We have 2 chihuahuas.......my family has adapted to my new lifestyle. They are more aware of nutrition now. However, they still eat the same junk and they do keep it in the house :( I have to have strong willpower to avoid the pantry !!
3. What area of the country(s) do you live in? Does your area affect how you eat?
I was born and raised in the south (a small town outside of Jacksonville, Fl). I love all of the southern, comfort foods-mac and cheese, fried chicken, gravy, mashed potatoes....I could go on and on. I started a lower carb, higher protein lifestyle last April to prepare for RNY. I have adapted many of the southern recipes to make them healthier. I really never used to like to cook, but have started to enjoy it more since exploring healthier ways to make things. I was raised to "clean my plate", I'm okay with leaving left overs but my husband is not and has actually gained wt since I had surgery b/c he cleans my plate :(
I'm thankful for all of the faithful vets on this board, you guys are awesome !!

I'm glad you posted this. There are definitely new members and I remember how much I enjoyed learning about the regular posters when I was one of them.
1. When was your surgery and what kind did you have? My lapband was in 2006 a month before my wedding. It was basically a disaster (four years of throwing up) and I had a revision to RNY in September 2010. I'm still trying to lose more (71 pounds so far) but I never let myself gain more than one pound.
2. Who lives in your house with you? How does that affect your eating/cooking?My husband and I are empty nesters now. I'm the cook (which I don't really like) but Larry is really good about eating anything. I usually make too much but I'm learning to freeze the leftovers, or make him bring them to work. I keep a zillion low carb/ high protein snacks in the house just in case. I still abuse ice cream and find myself mindlessly snacking if Larry does. I really wish Larry would not bring in so much junk food but haven't got past feeling guilty that he shouldn't miss out just because i shouldn't have it. (Then again, neither should he, so I'm not giving up LOL)
3. What area of the country(s) do you live in? Does your area affect how you eat? I live near Ft. Lauderdale, FL Pretty cross-cultural around here so i can get any kind of food I want. We still have Sabbath dinner with my 90 year old MIL every Friday. That meal is a killer, since there is sooo much fat in everything she makes. My new solution is to have a protein coffee before I go to her house. Then I really just have a little soup and nibble on the main dish. Luckily she is blind so she doesn't notice, as long as I tell her everything is delicious!
